Now that c2it is closing shop (as of Nov. 9), I'm left struggling to find another method to send my mom money up in Canada. I'd use PayPal, but she doesn't have access to the Internet, let alone a PC.

So today I went down to my bank - they wanted to charge me $42 for a $250 money transfer from the US to Canada, and it would take a week. Umm, okay. Western Union isn't much better at $35.

Does anyone know of another similar service like c2it, which doesn't require the recipient have a PC?

TIA!

The only electronic transfers that wouldn't require online access would be a bank to bank wire transfer or ach transfer.

Wire transfers from the US to Canada should take no more than a few business days, depending on the relationships the banks have with each other. ACH transfers are cheaper and usually faster, but you would have to check with your banks to be sure it's okay. With an ACH transfer, she can actually initiate everything at her bank (assuming her account/bank allows it) and all you would have to do is give her your bank information (Account holder's name, bank name, account number, routing number). In some cases, your bank may call you to verify the transfer, but chances are they won't.

What banks are they?

If you have a bank of america account with bill pay I believe you can send money to her through that. It takes a few days. It is just like mailing a check except they do it. This system is great since they dont require the place you send money to be on their approved list. If they are not on the list they just mail out a check.
