Hmm - interesting tan lines on nb's bird.
This year we will be at our house with my wife's family. Some years we go to Nebraska to be with my daughter and some of her husband's family.

I was turkey chef when I was living in NO and SF. Now that I'm back in the NE, I visit the folks.

I go to Boston Market and pick up the Thanksgiving feast. They do a nice job on the whole thing. But this year I'm just going to skip it altogether as I will be out of the country that week.

you can still have turkey even if you are out of the country, turkey.
they might squander you up some in that Mexican prison you'll be spending the week in. :P

We tend to cook.
Donnie deep frys the bird and I cook the fixings.
We also tend to have anyone not leaving town to visit mom and dad etc. over so we normally cook for about 15 people.

actually, my cousin does it, and it's not that different from baked... it's not breaded or anything, it's just a way of cooking it that doesn't leave the white meat dry; it doesn't really pick up much extra oil.
and we will be cooking the bird, first time ever at our house, like we're adults or something... going home is a bit of a pain, given that prm's parents are divorced, giving us three sets of parents to dag the kids around to, and his momma is so possessive and jealous and keeps careful account of how much time we spend where so she knows exactly how much she's being slighted...
so we're having prm's dad n stepmom, his dad's bro w/ gf and maybe daughter (son disappeared into snowboarding limbo several years ago), his dad's sis w/ husband and daughter, and my parents (my sis won't be back from az til xmas) ... all on the thurs/fri of the weekend.
my mom makes REAL cranberries that ROCK, and the best pecan pie ever (so many people screw it up so badly) i'll do the turkey (got a calphalon turkey roaster for the occasion) and prm's stepmom is the dessert gangsta...
we're having prm's mom n stepdad on the saturday so they don't have to share. she'll probably microwave some salmon (eechchchchbleaaah) ... i hid the crockpot so she can't do anything indecent to beef or pork... :bawl:

The ONLY way to cook turkey... :munch:
Once you've tried deep-fried turkey, you'll never eat a roasted bird again. ;)

Yes, it definitely is and I will be the one on crutches or cane ...although I will normally just get there a few hours before they open. Although it depends on what I am getting. If its good enough, I can sleep outdoors. Last year I hit CC, Staples, some sports store, BB, Office depot, and compusa. It will probably be easier to hit the one up in escondido now that I know where it is.
As for the bird question. Generally, I help cook it, but we eat at one of my parents. And Cajun fried turkey is great!

so true.....deep fried turkey is the best. i ate me some at a super bowl party last year. the host fried up 2 birds in peanut oil. it tasted phenominal.
I eat at my place for dinner and a friends for lunch, DUH

Nope, apparently you haven't been to Walmart lately! I think they have the market on selling the fryers!

Inject your seasonings, let it set for a hr or so. You fry it up in Peanut oil -- no greasy taste at all. And instead of taking hrs to cook, it takes just minutes. about 4-5 minutes per pound.
and as others have said, the meat is juicy, the skin is crispy and there is no going back to cooking it in an oven

Mrs. Kevster and I are having Thanksgiving at home with friends. We both live a plane-ride away from our families and we've been going back and forth every Thanksgiving and Christmas between the two. This year we decided to stay here and celebrate the holidays at our house. Now we need to get a good dining room table and chairs to do it correctly.
Hey Apex - got any coupons/deals for fine furniture stores in Torrance/Hollywood Riviera? :P

I know where he's going and trust me - I'd love to go there with him (and it ain't Mexico either!)
 Ok this is weird - I keep trying to add another post about Nickel's comment and it keeps merging my posts together?
Oh GAM where art thou?
There is a new feature that adds posts together if you post twice within 45 seconds or something, in the same thread.
Edit...I guess it's 4-5 minutes. Here (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=67947) is the thread about it.

Thanksgiving used to always be here, and I helped cook the bird. Now it's at a different relatives house each year. I still make my famous mashed potatoes. Only because my aunt makes sweet potatoes which I do not care for, but I LOVE mashed potatoes so I decided to make some.
