View Full Version : Dizzy spells
About six weeks ago, I started having short dizzy spells. Only a few seconds long, and they weren't interfering with my ability to function. That changed a few days ago.
I was dizzy a good part of the day Saturday. I was still up and about, going about my day and all, but it was really distracting. Later that night I was kneeling on the floor of the kitchen, getting something out of a low cupboard. Dizziness hit me and I fell on my ass. Sunday was ok, with only a few really minor episodes. I didn't have any dizziness at all today, until about half an hour ago. I tried to stand up (I was sitting on my desk chair) and couldn't.
I'm not sharing this with my roommates yet. They know about the dizziness, but they don't know it's gotten worse. Today was a good news day for some of them, and I don't want to diminish that.
Now that my moving silliness is over with, I'm going to get in to see a doctor. I don't mind telling you that I'm a little scared.

anemic!
Most likely blood pressure related in males... hopefully they will be able to diagnose you easily
Last year at college, I had dizzy spells. I'd be walking across a street, or to class, or just sitting down, and everything would start shifting and after 10 seconds, everything went black. Whew... I don't miss those, but really, best of luck in finding out what's wrong

ask your doctor about possibly mastioditits, minears syndrome, or retaining fliud in your inner ear.

i'd be very surprised if it was blood-pressure related... in someone so young, you need a MAJOR blood pressure disturbance to elicit that magnitude of physiological response.
if it isn't a combo of eating poorly/too much caffeine/not enough sleep, a viral infection of the inner ear/vertigo is also a possibility.
of course, it could be all manner of exotic awful stuff like strokes and tumors, and it's impossible not to worry about that, but try not to... it's so unlikely.
good that you have no qualms about going to a doc like most male americans...
and, yeah, reading that again... it really sounds like vertigo, which my mom tends to get from time to time. you're not blacking out, and it started out slowly and suddenly became a pain... yep. don't worry about it! whatever it is, i'm sure it's minor and a good excuse to take some time off work...
