Howard Dean says that Southerners have to stop basing their votes on "race, guns, God and gays."

Yeah... that's just what Southerners enjoy... having some New Englander take a trip down South and start telling them what to think and what to do.

:bigmouth:

Is this guy for REAL? This on the heels of his Confederate Flag speech?

So, now that he has almost certainly alienated a large group of Southerners with some blunt language about the topic above... and earlier this week those people who dispise the Confederate flag... exactly who does the Democratic party think is going to vote for him?

:hmm:

well, here we go. classic HUGE political mistakes from someone who, when it comes down to it, is an infant in the world of politics. basically, being gov. of vermont does not give you the kind of experience needed to deal with the pressures of a high-profile national campaign.

so one day, you piss off most of your base by (supposedly) embracing the confederate flag. any Dem should know that if you really want people with confederate flags to vote for you, never say the word "confederate flag" if you can avoid it. and if you don't want to have half the dems in the country run you down, don't suggest we embrace people who like the "stars and bars".

but then, the worse blunder. now that you've pissed off your base, rather than either a) apologizing or b) letting the issue die and trying to patch things up over time, you go out two days later and try to prove that you're still a hardcore leftie by insulting (basically) the entire south.

it's not going to make the left instantly forgive you for the flag comment, but it's going to alienate most of the south, which may not matter now, but if you win the nomination, it's a MAJOR problem.

dean has to realize that he's the frontrunner now and everyone (republican and a lot of dems) are gunning for him, which means he has to guard the rhetoric, or he will self-destruct.
