do you mean NYC? if so, i'd say (in no particular order):
1.) the statue of liberty
2.) the view from the empire state building
(although i've you're trying to save money, i'd say the statue of liberty is more of a must-see than the ESB)
3.) walk the brooklyn bridge
4.) times square at night
5.) ground zero
6.) central park - check out the ice rink in the south-east corner, tavern on the green, the imagine moasic at 72nd street and central park west, etc.
7.) if the tree is up at rockefeller center, definitely see that. as long as you're there, check out st. patrick's cathedral.
8.) shopping on fifth avenue
9.) the east village at night
10.) cbgb, if you're into punk rock
11.) grand central station
12.) if you're into museums and stuff, there's plenty of that, but i'm no expert there
ok, that's a start. there's people around here who can tell you way more stuff than i can.
oh, and if you're not going to NYC, i'm no help whatsoever :P

actually, i think you're referring to the cathedral church of st. john the divine, which is episcopalian ;) (i happen to live about 100 yards from the church :)) anyway, both that and grant's tomb are in morningside heights, not harlem.
but if you do come up this direction, also check out columbia's campus - low library, the alma mater, st. paul's chapel, etc. some great architecture and beautiful buildings.
also, get pizza from koronet pizza (broadway between 110 and 111). largest, cheapest slices that i've seen in manhattan. and they're pretty yummy, hitting that spot that only greasy pizza can (yes obbie, i know it's not real pizza ;))
in addition, if you're up here, check out riverside church (riverside and 123 or so). in many ways it's better than st. john's.

I think you're right about the church-i'm talking about the one where they bless the animals every year..and I know Grants tomb isn't in Harlem silly man, but the greyline tour that takes you into harlem also takes you to these landmarks..LOL..I know because we take it every year when we go down for the holidays-it's become a ritual with us..I guess I needed some comma's in there or something..The Apollo though-we all know IS in harlem..maybe I should have put THE APOLLO first? then the rest..either or...on the tour you get to see it all..and HEY I like NY pizza..way better than the crap I get where I'm living..
