View Full Version : Getting your tonsils out and alcohol -- response requested
I just got an update on my surgery, I have my choice of 3 days:
I turn 21 on Dec. 23 ... :hmm:
When should I have the tonsillectomy done so that I can maximize my birthday/new years fun?
I'd say the 24th, but I'm not sure they'd allow me to go out and get wasted on my birthday, the night before the operation, and then I probably wouldn't be ready for New Year's Eve either... maybe 31st?

If you want to be partying by new years-have them out on the 17th..I had mine out when I was 28-it hurts like hell..My doctor told me I could have what I wanted to eat after 3 days..I voted for chicken wings..I probably should have picked ground glass-the results would have been the same. (OUCH)..my throat was sore for about 3 weeks.
I don't think I'll be able to get both my 21st and New Years in... doh!

Yeh, earlier the better. My wife had it done when she was about 26, and the recovery time is loooong for adults - she couldn't eat regular food for about 2 weeks.

tell them you can't do in in december and get it done in january
From Dec. 31st, I have 2.5 weeks of downtime where I have nothing to do, no holidays, no birthdays, etc... I just have a feeling too that since my tonsils are horrific (or so the ENT doc said), I'll be one of the occasional few to have complications afterward :( Bah!
Everyone at work said do it the 17th... hmmm
I read about the procedure and burning or cutting is hard to imagine... YOW!!! Double shot of anesthesia, STAT!

I say have it done on the 31st. You only turn 21 once, so enjoy it.
I'll either be miserable on my 21st, or miserable on New Years...

Well if it takes 3 weeks to recuperate, you're going to be miserable on New Years anyways, I'd wanna at least have fun on one of the days. Just my 2 cents...
