I've been having a problem with one of my Windows XP Pro machines on my network, and hopefully you guys can figure it out.

For some reason, I can no longer share files/folders from this one machine. Right-clicking a file/folder does not display a Sharing command, nor does a sharing tab appear when viewing the item's properties.

I recently did a complete reformat & re-install of XP using default network settings, yet it still doesn't have sharing enabled.

Any ideas?

you might have to go into the network properties and enable it.

I just figured out what the problem is, and it appears to be a bug in Windows XP itself.

Basically, if you redirect the My Documents folder to something else (such as D:\), then double-click this folder on the desktop, you will not see the "Sharing & Security" command when right-clicking an item, nor will you see the "Sharing" tab in the item's properties.

Just tried that on all my XP Pro machines here, and all of them have the glitch (and I believe all of them are on Service Pack 1).

Note: When redirecting the "My Documents" folder, I've always told it not to move the files from the existing folder.
