View Full Version : Her Dying Wish: to Oust Bush
http://www.sunspot.net/news/nationworld/bal-te.request08nov08,0,6360786.story
Gertrude M. Jones didn't want flowers or cards when she died. She wanted to get rid of President George W. Bush.
The 81-year-old woman's obituary asked that memorial donations be given "to any organization that seeks the removal of President Bush from office." And people around the country are following her wishes.
In an online memorial book to Jones, dozens of people posted messages of support. Many wrote that they would contribute to the Democratic National Committee or one of the presidential contenders.
The campaign of fellow candidate Wesley Clark also has received at least 15 donations in Jones' name in Montana alone, said Angela Monaghan, Clark's campaign coordinator in Ramsay, Mont.
"It's been real effective. If that's what it takes to get people to donate, then that's great," Monaghan said.
Jones, of Mandeville, La., died Aug. 25, and her brief obituary appeared in The Times-Picayune in New Orleans on Oct. 2.

why is that a waste of a last wish?
i actually find it rather inspiring that someone values political freedoms (including the right to be outspoken in one's disagreement, right to vote, right to fair elections, etc) to incorporate those values into a last wish. most americans take that sort of thing for granted. . . hell only about half of us vote.
would you feel any differently if the current president was one that you did not like rather than one you support?

or, for something more divisive, how about to give money to either a Pro Abortion or Anti Abortion group?

i'm not quite sure i understand. are you saying it's ok if she wanted to personally give money to groups that oppose the re-election of GWB, but it's not ok for her to encourage others to do it?
and are you also saying that encouraging others to oppose GWB's re-election is disrespectful?

That's pretty funny sbp :heh: Especially considering that in the last Presidential Election, Florida Republicans prevented thousands of registered voters(mostly minorities) from voting by falsely accusing them of being felons. Being as Dubya only won by less than 600 votes there, that is about as corrupt as you can get since it decided the election.

Quietly Florida Admits 2000 Election Fraud
By The Associated Press
April 26, 2002 | Filed at 10:17 p.m. ET
. . .Many voters said their votes didn't count or they were turned away from polls due to mistakes on voter lists, busy telephone lines at election headquarters, punch-card voting machine foul-ups and other problems.
Statewide, the largest numbers of voting problems were found in precincts with high proportions of black and elderly voters
Under the settlement, both sides will work to restore voters who were wrongly removed from voters lists in the 2000 election. Many law-abiding voters across the state said their names were dropped because they were mistakenly pegged as ex-cons, who generally aren't allowed to vote in Florida. . .

In 2000 the Dems tried to steal yet another election.
If Gore had won his own home state, Florida wouldn't have mattered.
Yeah it was a mess in Florida-newsmedia calling the election for Gore early, thereby costing GWB votes in Florida's panhandle. Then there's the matter of the Dems giving a big FU to military people. http://home.earthlink.net/~sbp777/smilies/headshaker.gif
before anyone brings it up: as for popular vote deciding the president, be sure to change the Constitution.
And just today Gomer Gore popped (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031110/ap_on_re_us/gore_civil_liberties_8) up again. Go away loser!

Ummm.... do you see that you've completely contradicted yourself? With the electoral college, a candidate only needs to win 7... 7 states, and they will have locked the election. If anything, with an electoral college, candidates will only visit the big states.
You might want to look into that.

and so...you accuse the winning party of doing it? eh?
so...are you saying that elections are governed by the republicans?
I love how that first article says random crap like:
A close examination suggests thousands of voters may have lost their right to vote based on a flaw-ridden list that included purported "felons" provided by a private firm with tight Republican ties.
without any real evidence that the firm has any republican ties at all.
or like:
In the process, however, the list invariably targets a minority population in Florida, where 31 percent of all black men cannot vote because of a ban on felons.
is that saying that the list is falsely accusing 31% of black men from voting? or are they saying that it's not fair that felon's can't vote, especially when they're black.
I'm sorry...but that article is soooo skewed.
as for the AP article, where does it say that the republicans masterminded this for bush to win?
or for that matter where in the article does it say that election fraud was commited (as the title suggests).
the evidence given tells of this list that wrongly disallowed elligible voters because of a faulty list. it gives no evidence that someone/thing was behind this to specifically remove democratic voters from the polls.
do you really believe everything that the media reports to us? or do you just choose to believe crap that supports your argument.

Gore loves bashing the patriot act, as a power grab by Bush's Administration and the republicans. But looking back at the senate's vote on HR 3162, the us patriot act, the vote was 98-1.

On a related note Katherine Harris will be running for Senate for the retiring Bob Graham in Florida next fall. Her rise from obscure state apointee to United States Senator will have been a remarkably fast 4 years. I don;t suppose anyone else sees a quid pro quo thing happening there.

I totally agree. While they're at it, let's also get rid of the FBI, the CIA and let's totally withdraw from the UN. All three are worthless organizations. However, I could also list about a dozen others.

I'm sensing a pattern here. SBP you never try to actually defend a republican, you simply try to tear down a democrat as your defense when republicans do something wrong. As if someone how mention Hillary's fast rise to prominence some how makes Katherine HArris' not seem fishy.
