does anybody know if dvdr+ discs will work with ps2 for the dvd playback? i doubt it, but i dunno? also, what percentage of standalone dvd players can't read dvdr+? one camp says that dvdr+ is more compatible, and another camp says dvd-r...so, i'm not sure whether i should get in on this deal seeing how inexpensive the price has dropped.

DVD+R movies burned on my NEC1100a work just fine on my PS2. As long as you use quality media you'll be fine.
As far as compatibility goes, I believe that DVD-R holds a microscopic edge in compatibility, and even then it's only in the older players. Overall compatibility is over 90% even factoring in older players.

The TDK media is usually pretty good quality...I know their -r's are of high status, and I've used a +R in my PS2 and it worked flawlessly. The Ritek media is also supposed to be some of the best and most compatible. As for the TDK burner, I've heard good things about it as well.
