I've decided to study for my mcse. I'm starting with exam 70-210. There are somethings I need to find out first.

1. Since taking a class would be expensive, what is the best book to use to study for the test.

2. Should I have 2 computers to practice with.

3. If anyone else would like to give me advice on what else I need or need to know I would appreciate it much.

PS. If this is in the wrong forum please move to the appropriate one. Thanks!

Ah, the good 'ol MCSE exams!

Best resources (IMHO) - the Transcender practice exams and a copy of the Windows Resource Kits. More than 1 PC is nice to have, especially for the networking exams. Taking the classes will help quite a bit, but they are rather pricey and certainly not required.

The 'Installing' exams are the easiest, then 'Implementing', and the 'Designing' ones are the most difficult.

Remember, you can do these the easy way or the right way. The easy way is to grab as many braindumps as you can, memorize the answers & take the exams. This will take about 2-4 weeks of preparation per exam.

The right way is to actually study & understand the material, get hands on experience and be able to understand the questions they're asking. This will take 1-3 months per exam, assuming you're not studying full time.

Good luck!

2 or even 3 computers would be ideal. You don't need anything special, just enough hardware to make everything run.

I know I can just get the test online and study that way but I want the hands on experience actually learn something. Are there anybooks you would recommend. I was looking at the microsoft windows 2000 self paced training kit.

The self-paced stuff from Microsoft Press is good. I'd stay away from the 3rd party certification books - they tend to focus on how to pass the exams rather than teaching you the material.

You don't want to be a "Paper Tiger". The value of the Novell NCE certification got watered down because of them. People would go to a 1 week school to learn how to pass the test then go out and f$#! up because they really didn't know what they were doing.
