I just got a call from a Time Warner Cable representative to set up an appointment to come out and switch out or unused cable box. All of our sets didnt require a box and the only reason we had it was to watch fights on PPV.

TWC: "Sir, we need to set up an appointment to switch out your box so that you can continue to get HBO. At the end of the month your old box wont work and you will only get channels up to 24 on that box"
UFC: "What will happen to all of our TV's without boxes."
TWC: "Oh, they will only get up to 24."
UFC: "So you are basically telling me that I am going to have to pay a lot more money to get the exact same thing I already had?"
TWC: "Thats not what I said"
UFC: "Yes, it is. If I dont get exactly what I have now and the only way to get it is pay more, then you are fleecing me"
TWC: "Sir, this is not me"
UFC: "No, I am not attacking you personally. You should realize this in the job you do. I am attacking the company you work for"
TWC: " Sir, I didnt call you to get in an arguement with you. Do you want to set up the appointment or not"
UFC: "Let me think about it. I think its time to give serious consdieration to DirectTV or your other competitors"
TWC: "Well they will charge you per room too"
UFC: "They might, they might now. But they arent doing this."

That was the gist of the conversation. It royally pissed me off. I am going to check on some things and probably give TWC the old heave ho.

wonder why you need a new box ... unless it's going to be the digital crap where you pretty much need a box, you should be fine? call them back to find out what the big change is. did the rep say there was an additional charge? i didn't get that out of what you posted..

.. anyway, should work without a box. i hate when businesses say "i can't" when that "can't" has been happening for a long time.

What the heck? I've never had a box and I get like 60 channels. That's bologna.

The reason given to me is that they are going to an all digital network and to continue getting HBO we need the digital box even if we arent subscribing to digital cable. The charge for the box will remain the same.

If you have Time Warner, prepare for a similar call. They are changing it over area by area. I was alerted to this by a CSR a few months ago warning me that they were going to be requiring everyone to get a new box and that you would need a set for each tv. I got the call today.

Around here we don't get HBO without the digital box either. It's been that way since I got it. For over a year I was paying only $72 for something I should have been paying $135 (Digital Cable, Roadrunner, Extra IP, HBO, HBO On demand). They figured it out when I called to cancel the extra ip though :( I dind't mind as much since I figured I had ripped them off for a good time.

Dude, you just need to go down there, hulk up, and smash some stuff up. They'll get the message. And then you can go buy a new shirt.

Yuh, i dont like TWC either. ME and my roomates ordered business class cable internet. It was $90 a month and only gave us 1000 kbps down and 500 kbps up, we called in and called in about our speeds and they said that is wasnt their fault. We were supposed to have 3000 kpbs down and 1000 kbps up. So we moved back down to residential again for $30 bucks a month and same speed. They are one backwards company.

Cox always was forcing me to grab my ankles and pay out the arse. At least TWC is reasonable if you call dumping your life savings out every month reasonable, but at least my but doesn’t hurt anymore.
