View Full Version : Will it work? Maxtor 80GB for $30 AR at Office Depot
Ordered one of these drives for $80 a month or so ago, and forgot to send in the
$30 rebate before the 2 week period. What I was thinking is I buy one this week, use
my old UPC with the $50 rebate form that will be printed out when I buy it. In a week or so I take the drive back to the store for a refund. A bit of a hassle, but the store is not far from where I work, so not too much effort involved. I might just have to turn my brother on to this deal, as I have yet another 80GB drive which I bought without any rebate, and an intact UPC.

Sounds like it should work to me. Just make sure that the serial number of the drive didn't get printed on the rebate receipt if it is also on the UPC.
BTW, careful with the Maxtor's lots of folks complaining about them crapping out right after 1yr warranty expires.

On the other side of the coin, I own five Maxtors of various sizes 40-120GB and they have all chugging right along (in RAID arrays so they never slow down) for 1-3 years.

One of my Maxtor 160GB died after two months of use.

I've got 5 Maxtor drives myself - 3x 40GB ones and a couple of 80GB drives and they have been chugging along. One of my 40GB drives has been going for 3 years so far.
Just make sure you take the drive back w/the old receipt in case they're actually halfway good at tracking.

anyone know why these rebates are not showing up on their website? are these B&M offers or did someone troll the rebate centers to find them?
take a look on the Got|Apex front page for today (11-13) the rebates are linked on there. Download the office Depot $20 one soon. By Sunday it will most likely be pulled off of their website.
Also, I think to be safe I will only redeem the $30 Maxtor rebate. I know on returns OD will scan the receipt, which means the purchase, and/or rebate can be tracked. I'll just be happy to get the $30 I missed out on.

I have 6 Maxtor drives (3 X 120, 1 X 80, 2 X 60) and only one I had to RMA, but they have three year manufacturer warranties out of the box and they'll advance RMA any drive with a credit card. I won't buy any other brand!

I have had Maxtors, WD's, Seagates and no problems with any of them.
I have a maxtor that is a little over 3 years old and no problems/noises or anything.
