Just install XP and at some point in the install it will ask if you want to upgrade. Just say no.

As said above, just follow the installation questions. I installed XP as a dual boot on my 98 system. XP will become the default boot option, but you can edit the boot.ini to change this if you want.

yup.
you gotta have 98 on it first.
also works out better with putting them on 2 different partitions.

ijust tried it and lost my windws instalation :-(
i am going ahead and re partitioning my drive and reinstalling everyhting :-(
Did you put the new installation into a new folder (C:\Windows for Win98 and C:\WINNT for XP)? Did you format the drive in NTFS? Win98 cannot read NTFS so don't do it.

He has Win98 so the drive should be formatted in FAT32.
call me crazy (/me waits for OC to literally call me crazy :hihi: ), but if the drive is win98, then i'm not seeing how it will install xp "into a folder" since xp is ntfs.
i'm with att that it has to be on 2 partitions. but i do know there are boot managers out there that will lie to win98 and make it think it's first on the drive, so that may not be as much of an issue.

You could install WinXP in FAT32 but it doesn't have all the securities that come with NTFS.
