Hello,
Having a tough time to get this to work. eSDeeLoco helped me out last time and I should have wrote down what he did to make this work. A run down of what I have:

PC running WindowsXP (Ethernet) IP Address 192.XXX.X.101
Mac running Jaguar 10.2.8 (Ethernet) IP Address 192.XXX.X.102
Laptop running WindowsXP and a wireless adapter(D-Link Air DWL-650)
IP Address 192.XXX.X.103
SMC Barricade Turbo SMC2404WBR

I am trying to set up a connection between the Mac and the PC so as to transfer files. I have run the network wizard for XP on both the PC and Laptop creating my network “HOME”. The PC and the Laptop see each other fine, able to transfer files. I then set my workgroup name on the Mac to “HOME” and then using the “Go” menu from the desktop of the Mac try to “Connect to Server”. The Laptop will appear, but I can’t get a connection to the PC. I can ping the Mac from the PC and vice versa. I have disabled the XP firewall software. I have installed all the protocols that I think I need-NWLink NetBios, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios Comp. Trans. Protocol, and TCP/IP. I also have Client For Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and QoS Packet Scheduler.

Any ideas?

Have you tried just putting in the ip of the PC in the "Connect to Server" box on the mac?

smb://192.168.1.101

Yup, gave that a try too. Can't figure this one out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Can you see the Mac in your PC's(either one) network places?

I can see the Mac on the Laptop, I think. It has a strange name.

"Samba 2.2.3a (build 26) (Mac Name)"

The "Mac Name" is the Rendezvous Name from the sharing tab on the Mac. When I try to connect, the Laptop asks for my user name and my password. I try typing in the info and it won't connect and then changes the "User Name" to my Laptop's name followed by a slash and then whatever name I entered. eg. "LAPTOP\Brian"

Sorry if this is confusing to read, but I am confused myself which doesn't help when describing problems...

Thank you for your patience.

open directory access from Applications:Utilities. Click SMB (you will have to authenicate first)

Click configure

Enter your workgroup as HOME and enter your wins server as your router.

This hopefully will work, but not for sure.

Ribtech, I tried your suggestion and it allows me to see the Mac on the Mac. Still can't see the PC. I have narrowed it down to the PC being the problem. I am thinking that I will do a clean install on the PC and hope that solves the problem. I will probably do that after the weekend, so if anyone can save me from all that work, I would give my first born...jk

Although I've never had problems networking with windows machines with os x machines since 10.2, this will make things a LOT easier. http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html

I notice os x networking in 10.3 is a lot better with windows, but still has its qwirks. Give dave a try, you might save a lot of hassle and graying hairs.

eSDeeLoco gets a big THANK YOU!!! His idea saved me. He said I should uninstall my network card and let xp reinstall it. Worked like a charm. My network is whole again. Thanks bro!
