My bro was removing some user profiles from hif girlfriends XP Home machine yesterday and when he rebooted he got a corrupt or missing Ntoskrnl.exe error. So the kernel is hosed?!?!? that cant be good. Can I just boot to an XP home cd and recopy the file? Where does it go? What the heck do you think happened?

If you google on "Ntoskrnl" you'll find lots of info. Take a look at

When I get that error here at work, about 50% of the time a repair install of XP will fix the problem and 50% of the time the partition is hosed and I have to reformat.
My guess is that he found and deleted the BOOT.INI file. Bad, bad, bad. Only way to fix it is to copy a BOOT.INI file from another machine onto this one but that isn't easy and if the file isn't exactly the same you get the same error until it is right. Fortunately, it is only about five lines of text.
