I am currently freaking out. I am going in to have this damn block done which involves a 10" needle being stuck under my spine and into a nerve bundle under X-ray. As I have said many times, I AM the worlds biggest needle phobe. If I could get out of this I would, but unfortunately it needs to be done. I cant even take my valium until an hour before the procedure and as such I am shaking like a leaf.
:bawl:  :bawl:

well, the needle's in your back, so at least you won't see it.
give yourself a boner and concentrate on that...maybe you won't even feel the needle going in :P

Well, I survived this damn procedure. I was supposed to be put into twilight sedation....somehow their definition of twilight and my definition are quite different. I was awake for the entire thing and could feel what was going on. Now I am in a lot of pain. Percocet isnt helping. We will see if this will all work out.

That sucks. Not much of needle-phobe anymore, but I completely understand the overwhelming fear of freaking ugly nurses with huge needles. I hope they finally are able to figure out what is bothering you.
If you get over your fear of needles, I'd suggest accupuncture. Does wonders.

I had a nerve block done to my sympathetic nervous system. It involved a 10" needle being inserted under my spine into the sympathetic nerve bundle(s) for my left ankle. The procedure has to be done under xray to watch the path of the needle. I believe one of the areas of concern was the possible preforation of the intestine. (As for the length of the needle that is what the doctor told me, I never saw it and he knows that I am a needle phobe and told me so that if I saw it I wouldnt run.
The procedure was done because of my ankle problem.
As for accupuncture, I am receiving electrical accupuncture already. Does the same thing as regular accupuncture but with an electrical charge stimulating the nerve rather than a needle.

So you have a TENS unit..those work wonders if you use them correctly..hope everything went well for ya. :)

No, its not a tens unit. Different kind of current than with a tens unit. We have had a tens unit around for a long time. The electrical accupunture uses a pin point that doesnt puncture the skin and puts a constant current directly into that point. Tens units radiate the electricity and usually its done in waves. The difference was explained to me when they started it....I said the same thing about the tens unit.
