Used to live in HB for five years. Great place to live, but I know some people that say people from HB are stuck up, depends where you live. I loved living there, and that's all I got to say about it.

I've met stuck up people from Compton hehe. HB and Newport are very nice areas and if you move in and don't blend, then the neighbors may get very snobby. Overall though people I know from there are nice people.

For Huntington Beach the Cable Service provider is Time Warner. The service is pretty good. Of course my friend's family has been on it since last May, way before anyone else. He's just lucky his mom works at Time Warner, no charge for premium cable, or Internet access http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif, I even asked for discounts, she said she couldn't hook me up http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif.

I'm new to the city of Irvine - started at UCI this year, enjoying the T1 that they give to us while it lasts. So far, I'm liking OC a lot. Whats up with all that construction on the freeways though??

That's because CalTrans can't get their act together. They chug along at the speed of molasses. Those idiots close the freeways at the most inconvenient times. Whose on the freeways at 10PM on Fridays? A LOT!!! How about 1AM to 6AM Saturday instead of trapping all the Friday night partygoers and what not in traffic?!
The construction on the I-5 has been going on for the longest time.
They're reconstructing I-105 because after maybe 5 years of use, the whole freeway is sinking!!
The 91 freeway's FastTrac is under a whole lot of fire because of mismanagement.
The list goes on and on. Bureaucracy http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Another SoCal here (Orange co.)
Live in Rancho Santa Margarita (South Orange). Work in Irvine. Been here for about a year. At first, I was not to thrilled with being here. I grew up in small towns so I really do not like big cities. South Orange co. has a lot of landscaping and open areas to help get my mind off the city buzz. Overall not a bad place to live.

How about the 405 between LAX and 101. If that isn't the worst traffic I don't know what is! LA Times reported it as the most congested highway segment in the world. I believe as I had to sit through that when I commuted to UCLA senior year! My commutes normally took 1.5 to 3 hours to go 35 miles.
The first 26 miles at an average of 80-110 mph (love that 105 hehe), and the last 13 at an average of 4-8 mph. Hmm, do you see a possible problem here.

colossus, I completly agree that the 405 during rush hour is horrible. I should be ashamed to tell this but, when going up to my friends apartment on a Friday afternoon. After moving a whole foot in 5 minutes, I needed to goto the restroom...so, to make a long story short, I popped my car in neutral, jumped to the back seat, and my friend jumped over from the front passenger side and continued driving while I relieved myself into a extra large cup. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

None of these posts ever stay on topic huh? And I'm helping to take it off topic http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
Anyways, what I don't understand is why the government doesn't widen the damn freeway. More road = faster travel = less accidents and more fuel efficiency = happier commuters, more time with family, more tax revenue from increased worker productivity.
May seem like a very simple concept. May seem even almost gamelike. I mean, when you play all those strategy games things that increase your civ's efficiency and productivity always win the game. Maybe these city planners should play Civilization or Sim City http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
The only downside I see to this is that there would be a need to move people who live near the freeway. Pollution would actually go down in the sense that cars would actually move instead of just spinning cams.
If you saved just 30 minutes a day, there's your exercise excuse! Or think of it as 180 extra hours a year! Ahh, more sleep...zzzzz

I can't wait for cars that do the driving for you in traffic and relinquish control when there isn't. That way I can sleep on the way to school or work, and when I can speed, I can drive like a maniac.
That makes too much sense colossus.
The Washington D.C. area has the second worse traffic congession in the USA. What's the liberals around here solution for it? {pretends he's a Washington D.C. Area liberal} "We need more mass transit. Yeah that's the solution. Even though the percentage of people using mass transit here is amongst the highest in the nation. And also raise gasoline price$ up $2 a gallon so we can pay through the ass just like Europeans. That's just for starters of course. We must get people out of their fossil fuel polluting cars and onto buses and trains. Forget about convience and taking the kids wherever you need to take them and your petty little excuses. You must make the sacrifice and we're making you make the sacrifice! You don't have a choice or voice in the matter."
And then there's some enviromental wacko group trying to block construction of a new Wilson Bridge while the old one literally is falling down taking 3 times the number of cars it was designed to take. Sometimes you feel like shoving your mighty fist in some idiots faces over and over again. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/mad.gif

Hey lisu24, I'm guessing you wouldn't mind paying up the wazoo for home owner insurace. I don't know if you remember this but, there were multi-million dollar homes that crumbled that insurance companies didn't pay for. It's so so so very sad to see that happen to people's dream homes. Most of them still had million dollar mortgages for houses that ended up as scrap heap.
And people wonder why Californians can't handle some rain. Come on El Nino, bring it on.

Dude,
God bless us Republicans, America should be glad we keep it together.
Could you imagine what another four years under Clinton could do to us? God forbid Gore gets in.
But on the traffic note, I have to say that its always one idiot at the front of traffic that causes a slow down.
Amen to that ShawnLee105!
Homosexuals do not make up 10% of the population. That number comes from the discredited Kinsey report. Recent surveys show about 2% of the population can be considered homosexual.
There are homosexual extremists pushing their radical agenda down people's throats. They are wrong for doing so. We have already seen the terrible results of liberalism over the past 4 decades.

I live in Santa Ana about a block away from SOuth Coast Plaza. There are parts of Santa Ana that reminds me a lot of where I grew up in (close to LA). But for the most part, south orange county is pretty much your typical yuppie neighborhood. Kids in Irvine are spoiled like crazy (that includes the college kids that go to uci too). And Newport Beach is pretty much the land of luxury cars.

Hapoo, what's wrong with you man!? Maybe you're not old enough to know. Gore is not the lesser of two evils. Basically when I see Clinton/Gore I see pure "adulterating" evil. I may be Republican, but I say this out of track history. I love JFK as a president. He was as scandalous as Clinton, but he managed to control the mistakes. Clinton is a fiasco, one after another. The media is more pervasive in the fact that they are quicker now, but they were still quick with the pen and TV back then. JFK managed to inspire a nation - Clinton creates a character called "Lady's Man" on SNL. Hmmmm.
Clinton seems to genuinely care, or at least I think he thinks so. The only problem is he's such a Hounddog that he chases skirts more than House bills. It's like having Ferris Bueller in the White House. The other problem is he lies, more than anybody I've ever seen in office. To protect American you have to lie, but not for the lame things he covers up. He's also so flipsy flopsy on every issue. I'd like to see any disagreement here.
As far as accomplishments, all he is known for is NAFTA and the middle east peace accords. England/IRA settled itself out. Anybody who thinks Clinton had anything to do with our high GDP rate for the last 9 years doesn't know a 401K from a Roth IRA.
Gore is simply a toned down Clinton. He doesn't skirt chase, but he lies just the same. Lies in the sense that everything is not the truth ie "I invented internet." This is where I have to "HATE" the man. He was proposing a "modem use tax" in his '92 campaign to help support the communications upgrade. Hmm, last time I check ATT and MCI Worldcomm had huge profits and growing margins. They don't need help. He wanted to tax BBS users. I've been doing this BBS/Internet thing way back to mid 80s, and I'll tell you it did not go over well on Boards just like these. Then he has the audacity to say he supports measures that open up the "equalizing internet". That's pure bull**** and a 100% reversal on one's philosophy.
Bush is by far no Saint. He probably still has some crack in his car. But at least he admits to "inhaling it". Saying GWB owes it all to his dad GHWB is like saying the Kennedy clan owns all their success to JFK senior and Bobby Kennedy. I'm sure that's not the case.
Hmm, did I rant. I'm sorry. I just HATE GORE. I've met him in person and even confronted him about this modem tax issue. He seemed like a deer caught in the headlights when I asked. At least Clinton would have tried to charm me with the Oxford/southern charm known as Bubba...

dude are you crazy?!!? you couldn't possibly have been seriously discriminated against have you?! Thanks to liberalism, women have the right to vote, and blacks are no longer being lynched in the streets (at least not all the time anymore). Thanks to liberalism, gay men and lesbians are not being beaten on a daily basis (although rednecks still seem to do the job...)Yea I can see the HAVOC that liberalism has created over the last half decade or so....its the havoc of the loss of privelage to the upper class in the US.
Oh yes and please try not to be homophobic..."extremists"??? Agendas?? Yea God forbid a minority group in America would want equal rights to the priveleged white men in this country.
"etremists"?? Try reading Martin Luther King Jr. (Letters from Birmingham) You are using almost the exact argument, word for word, that conservative southern whites used against "extremist" "uppity" blacks.
