OK, I probably have the best "all-around" system since most of you don't have money to spend (AKA college students with $0 income) like me. Here it goes:

Piii550 overclocked to 599.5 MHz
ASUS P3c2000 motherboard
ATI AIW 128 32MB with DVD/TV out / TV-on-PC sending to a Sony 21" Trintron Flat Screen
Matrox Millenium II 16MB sending to a Sony CPD-200ES (Dual monitors rule!)
Adaptec 2940UW (will be upgraded soon)
9.1GB Quantum Atlas IV (10,000 RPM) 80 pin
4.5GB Quantum Viking II (7,200 RPM) 68 pin
9.1GB Micropolis 3391WS (7,200 ROM) 68 pin
IBM 40GB 7,200 EIDE
IBM 20.5GB 7,200 EIDE
IBM 13.5GB 7,200 EIDE
WD 13GB 5,400 EIDE
Plextor 40XWide SCSI CD-ROM (68 pin muhaha)
Ultraplex 32 SCSI CD-ROM (50 pin)
Toshiba 4X SCSI DVD-ROM SD-1212 (I Think)
Plextor 12x10x32 SCSI CD-RW (testing this for a friend's company)
Yamaha 4x2x6 SCSI CD-RW (it's my original burner -gotta love it)
384 MB SDRAM (Micron + PNY Mix)
3Com 10/100 3C-905C Etherlink NIC with bootable EPROM
SB Live (512 I Think)
USR 56K Voicemodem (The lowpoint of my machine)
Win98SE OS soon to be Win2k

If we count in slaves/server, I also have a P100 running as a file server for MP3 backup and a Pii333 running as a gaming/print server/ancillary backup system. Both are shared on Ethernet backupbone using a Linksys 8 Port 10/100 switch.

In competition with Portmystik's sound system is my Sony STR-915 and STR-D550Z receiver pushing 4 JBLs TLX-171s, 1 JBL 16" Bass Cube, 2 JBL 101 centers, 2 KLH 901 Rears, and 2 Sony Towers (5 way) ripped from home hehe. This has resulted in 2 warnings from Pomona Police http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Does Win2k support dual chip? Hmm, does Office 2k? If so, I'll probably switch over. The only reason I never got a duelly is because my friend told me the majority of software can't take advantage of the parallel processing. How true is this?

I was bidding at a business to business auction for a P2 400 laptop, a used one. It was supposed to have a 12" screen, 8gb hard drive, win98, no dvd, no cd, no modem, etc. I won it at $1175 shipped.

What came was entirely different. I got a brand new Sony F390 laptop:

P3 500
12gb Hard Drive
4x DVD-Rom
Floppy (both dvd and floppy are integrated)
56k modem
128mb Ram
15" active TFT
Windows 2000 + OFfice 2000 Premium

Me, being the easy-going uncomplaining type... well, I don't think I'll call them and demand what I won.

Heh, I think they must have accidentally sold mine to someone else and had to replace it with something (business to business type auctions are usually pretty good about making up for their mistakes). http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Win2k does support dual chip. though only programs designed to use more than one processor can, like autocad. sorry, solitare won't. but the beuty of dual chip is, one program can use one chip while another program uses the other http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

trust me, you'll notice the difference once you put the second proccessor in, esp. while multitasking

Well, now I just need to figure if I want to sell my 2 month old P3c2000 to go duelly. Anybody got any board suggestions? I need stability and reliability with speed secondary. What good is fast if you have to reboot every 5 minutes. With all the crap I have it take me now about 3-5 minutes to reboot Win98. My registry is all messed up.

I'm running out of IDE buses to connect to any ide devices, so I'm switching to SCSI which is pretty nice and fast. I think 2 years from now, they'll introduce some new bus in the motherboard that goes up to gig bits per second which a lot of bus to load all the devices. Does anyone know any good specs to check out.

I'm thinking about putting win2000 on the second system maybe on a new hard drive since I like win2000 better than the unstable 98.

Yes you can get a card like Promise's Ultra 66 card that will add IDE channels portmystik.

I switch between the soundcards for games Speedfreak. If a game uses A3D I use the MX300. If it uses EAX I use the SBLive card. The SBlive is the default choice for music and directsound games since its quieter.
