I had a root canal way back in junior high, because I got hit with a titanium-cored softball comebacker from a pitch I threw that flew right into my mouth. Got the whole loose tooth and fat lips (huge swollen, actually inner lips squeezed and swelled in front of my tongue squeezed in between the back of my lower front teeth.) Well anyways, now a good 12 years later that same tooth is looking fugly and darkly discolored and is not really aching more than just letting me know in a very annoying way something is wrong. Couldn't sleep more than 3 hours this morning, and tonight doesn't seem too promising either. Anyone else have experiences with something going wrong with the root canal years later? I swear if I didn't think it would make me look retarded, I'd just pull the dang thing out right now.

Ibuprofen and Anbesol can help relieve the pain temporarily. Now go make a dentist appt!

Ibuprofen doesn't help much, and I hate the taste of Anbesol. :heh:
I took a nice bubble bath and forgot about the pain, but as soon as I thought of sleeping, it started acting up again.
Thank God it isn't really painful, just so darn annoying.

yeh, call the dentist tomorrow. tell the receptionist the pain has kept you up at night and that should ensure that they should see you very soon.
sounds like you need the tooth re-treated, re-root canaled. the darkness means the nerve is dying in it. the nerve must've still been alive after the initial root canal, unless this is a tooth next to that one. are you for sure that this tooth already had a root canal?
try some excedrin or tylenol PM if you have it. there is pressure built up inside your tooth. the pain will go away when the dentist drills a hole in the back of your tooth to release the gases.
GOOD LUCK!
My husband is having a root canal re-done today. His symptoms sound like yours, so I'd get in and have it checked. Good luck!

Well, I went, they said the tooth looked fine, and that the headbutt I took is causing the pain. So for the pain I got some Vicoden and amoxocilin(sp?) to ensure no infections are actually taking place.
