So, I was recently reading a friend's Xanga and I noticed that she was commenting a lot on her new relationship with this guy. What stuck out most to me wasn't that every post was about him...Every month she made a single post noting their "anniversary" and then discussed how they were going out to celebrate and she bought him a gift etc.
On the other hand, my cousin and his girlfriend have been together for over a year now and they never exchange gifts (not even for Christmas) and they never have scheduled anniversary outings. They both agreed that those celebrations weren't as valuable as their time spent together and random gifts and in short, were childish.
Call me naive or call me insensitive, but I have to agree with my cousin and his girlfriend. Ever since I can remember, all of my friends who were involved in relationships in the past 8 years have considered their 1 month, 2 month, 3.5 month, etc anniversaries some of the most important days of their lives. They would spend their money on flowers, gifts and a nice date. But doing this on a monthly basis? It's almost absurd.
Is there really a point to celebrating so often? I can understand wedding anniversaries as those occur once a year. So what makes dating someone for a month or 6 months so important when you're younger? Ever notice that as people get older, dating anniversaries are no longer important?
