I usually get screwed on my days off because they never put them in a row so i can go on a instate vacation. It's seniority and how much they like people. Unfortuinately for you like counts more than seniority. Sounds like you didn't suck up enough over the last 6 months.

They might also have modifiers based on children that need caring for, medical disabilities, carpoolin requirements and minority status.

Then again, somone might have just given you a little "helping hand" on your selections and screwed you over. Who hates you?
