The Official Nikon D70 Digital SLR Camera thread

I just spoke with my buddy Larry over at Hooper Camera in Sherman Oaks, CA. He's the guy I purchased my Nikon N65 from and I was asking him on updates about the D70. He literally just opened his documentation from NikonUSA regarding the D70 and here's the latest:

D70 is going to be available beginning March 18th. The body alone is going to cost $999.95 and the new 18mm-70mm DX Lens will cost $449.95. He didn't have a price on the body/lens combo, but I'm guessing it's slightly cheaper.

Preorders with him are beginning now that he has a price list. I'm going to wait to see if there's any online authorized dealers that will be offering better packages, but it's definitely time for me to come up with $1,300 bucks so I can pick this camera up.

Best thing about the camera, it's compatible with all of my current Nikkor lenses :)

Great price. It's going to give the Canon EOS 10D a run for its money. I just have to figure out a way to finance the New Canon EOS 1D Mark II. :drool:

I don't know if I could push myself to spend that much on a camera...{drools all over D70}

HOWEVER, I would consider picking up an 800mm lens or something of that nature for $8,000.

Looking at the specs, it looks nice, better than dig rebel, maybe even 10d... but i have a ton of canon lens. Hoping the 10D drops., when the d70 is released. The 1d mark 2 looks nice though

or even better if canon has something ready that fits inbetween the 10d and the 1d2

Well, if I get the 1D-2, I can sell you my old 10D. It's in mint condition with a lot of extras.

the d70 sure is nice. i got to play with it at a local shop here in torrance during one of their "nikon days" - however, i'm still not convinced to drop any money on the dslr's.
