What is the best 17" CRT monitor on the market, in terms of image quality? What is the best brand? Model number? Are there any websites that constantly review (in-depth) monitors? (I can't find any:shrug: )
I'm looking for a mid-high end monitor, so high-priced monitors are welcome as well :)

from what i know, samsung make pretty good monitors. sony's are pretty good too.

with the 17"'s you should be able to find cheap ones for under 100 bucks every now and then (after MIR). with the flat screen 17"'s, you find them for under 100 rarely....but more likely in the 100-150 range.
in terms of value... samsung is usually best bang for the buck. if you're thinking straight image quality (professional graphics)...you're going to want to really spend some money (but that begs the question, why not also get a bigger screen? but for that, check out the sony's 1st. if not sony's then you might find some good ones with viewsonic or nanao (or is it eizo)

We use NEC accusync 75F's. They're not too bad, cost about 160 bucks, but I haven't seen them on a higher rez than 724X1068.
My sony trinitron at home is great, but I'd personally try to go with a monitor that has at least a 3 yr warranty if you're gonna go that expensive.

Some of the finest monitors you will find. The color on these literaly pale the competition. Put an Illyama next to a really good looking screen, turn it on and the "really good screen" suddenly doesn't look that good any more.
The problem is that they don't seem to make 17" monitors any more, just 19 and 22. You might see if you can pick up an older 17" one somewhere though. If money wasn't an issue I would only use Iiyama.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Yeah, I've seen the Samsungs (my parents have one, the 753DF, i think). I think they are a good value buy and have good image quality, but the geometry is bad -- on my parents' model, the screen sags horizontally in the middle of the screen...
I'm using an NEC MultiSync at work, and I love the image quality. But I guess these models are discontinued, and the AccuSync are the new ones(???). This might be a good choice...
I always here the Sony's are top-notch. But I wonder if the image quality is that much better (than the NEC's, for example) to justify the high prices(???). As for looking for 17" monitors and not 19" -- good question! :D I think I'll look into some 19" monitors as well (I'm easily persuaded:P ). I was just basically trying to get a feel for what the best brands and models, and the size and can be negotiated later...
As for Iiyama -- whoa!!! Very nice! But the prices are VERY high, a little more than I want to pay for a monitor:). But thanks for the info! I'll look into a Iiyama when I build my ULTIMATE system (some time in the next 10 yrs:P )

Maximum PC Magazine has all but given up on trying to find a better PC monitor than that one... and personally one day I'll have to get me one. :D
I take that back -- I think I'll still in the sub-$500 range :o
There seems to be no end for some products :D
