I have a Dell 4550 P4 2.4GHz (533mhz FSB), 512MB PC2700, GF4MX420, Lite-on CD-RW, LiteOn DVD-ROM, two IDE HDDs.., That's about it..Will I be able to sustain a Radeon 9800 pro with this power supply? It's a 250Watt...In addition, my AGP is only 4X..will this limit me much??
Thanks in advance

I think you are okay. I just bought a Dell 8300 (P4 3.0E) and the spec says that it comes with a 250W PSU. I upgrade from the FX5200 to R9800Pro and Dell changes the PSU to 305W.

I'm weary of tiny power supplies. You can't go wrong with a 430w antec true power. But I think you're going to find Dell uses proprietary powersupplies that arent easily upgradable.

But I'm going to be upgrading my card myself..Not in the factory..

Nah, they stopped doing that. They're standard now.
I think you'll be OK with the 250w - you're not running that heavy of a load.

I know but what I'm trying to say is that Dell switched the PSU to 300W because of the R9800 upgrade. If Dell uses the 250W PSU in my Dimension 8300, I would upgrade that PSU to more powerful one anyway. In my 8300 I have a P4 3.0E CPU, 2x256MB PC3200, R9800Pro video card, 3 hard drives, 1 DVD+RW, a TV tuner card, and a PCI to IDE card.

If I want to upgrade my power supply are there any specs I need to know? Brands, etc?

I'd go with antec true power. antec is personally my fav ps. I personally think that 250 is a little low. Min, I'd go with a 300 ps. And a antec 330 true will most def do all that you want.

I guess we'll see..If I start having problems I'll go with the 330..

Antec True Power is the first and last name in high quality power supplies.

ATI's website says:
"ATI recommends a 300-Watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed."
Give it a try, if it fails to boot or freezes while gaming up the PS.
