I live in section 4, Oregon: "All Californians know that their neighbor to the north is Oregon. They know this because Oregon is where Chai was invented."

Sadly, what he says is true. I am amazed at the inabilty of people to learn geography, especially those in California.

Hah, you think thats bad. People IN california don't even know ABOUT california. I can't tell you how many times i've been asked where my parents live and had to end the discussion with "its about 2 hours north from here". Aparently in Orange County, your either from LA or SB and theres nothing in between. And of course south is just SD and Northern Cali is just SF.

:stupid:

I had to go to New Mexico for work (when I worked at the Getty) once and several people I went to school with thought I was actually going to Mexico. One girl even asked me if I needed a passport to go there! (oh, and she was from Orange county too :P )

Yeah. I think someone did a survey of high school kids several years back and they found that about 13% (in that ballpark anyways from my memory) of california students couldn't find california on a map. I just remember hoping that it wasn't a map of california that they were showing these kids. :P

Many years ago, I was asked by a Bostonian chick in her late teens if you could see the lines dividing the states from the plane as you flew overhead. Priceless.

No way - it's universal. I remember a newspaper column I read years ago where the writer had been arguing with a post office employee who was trying to charge him international postage to mail a letter to Kansas, since of course everyone knows that Kansas is in Canada.

After moving to California, I get the same stare of “what the hell were you thinking” when I told people that I moved from Chicago. I have experienced too often, when it rains in Orange County, everyone drives way too slow. I understand that the roads are much slicker because of the oil buildup but COME ON! 40 mph on the interstate? I’m doin 75 mph. I’m sick of the Health Mex food. Gimme some deep-fried, fatty, high cholesterol, heart-attack-in-a-sack food!

I admit. I love california weather and terrain. But when it rains, News stations act like it’s the end of the world! “Storm watch 2004 with Live Doppler 7000 plus!”, even though its only raining a few inches. Their Doppler radar here, being the most expensive system in the nation or so it seems, is barely being used to its full potential. “We are LIVE here in Orange County where it IS raining. Yep. It’s raining alright.” Reporters making it sound like it’s time to pack your bags. Good grief.

ok, enough already….

ahahahahaha....

You would think that he's being fecetious, but he freaking ain't. I was about to rant about that, especially the Storm Watch bs with the Doppler 7000. I swear, is there nothing better to report on than to talk about freaking water falling from the sky for the whole hour? Stupid talking heads have made it so that it's become a mantra show not even a "news" show.

New York, where the official state animal is the bagel.

:heh: This is so true. I can't tell you how many people know to associate bagels with NY, but not much else.

:D

The blue vertical line is the Mississippi River. Californians don’t actually know where it is, they just know it’s in the middle of the country and that it runs “up and down”.
:bigmouth: :heh: :bigmouth: Now that is damn funny!

On another note. I moved to Georgia a couple of years ago from California and everytime I meet someone who has visited California with their southern accent, they got asked the same question..."What part of Texas are you from?" Apparently all accents are either from New York, Boston, or Texas.
