alright, didn't know if i should post in the hardware, tech support, software or entertainment forum :)
i have an mp3 folder on my 200GB harddrive (f:\mp3\). yesterday i wanted to play some of the MP3s, but winamp (5) would sit there and show 00 for the time. yet, the file is of correct size (not 0 MB). tried to play in media player, and gives error of "the file you are attempting to play has an extension that does not match the file format." the file is an mp3 file.
i also realized there are other mp3 folders that won't play (let's say f:\mp3\subfolder\), and i figure they are all folders that were downloaded around the same time on DC++. these were downloaded on my C drive, then transfered here. i also KNOW that these files worked before because i was playing them! other mp3s that i've had a while (in f:\mp3 and f:\mp3\other sub folders\) still work. i burned them on CD and tried a few other computers in my house, and no luck. it's like those are the only mp3s to be corrupted.
i'm wondering if anyone can give insight as to what might have happened? one thing i was thinking was i transfered them all at the same time, and i'm sure it appends to the end of the drive. my 200gig drive has about 10% space left. maybe the outer edge of the disk is failing and corrupting files? i ran check disk and no problems popped up though.
i think that's it for now. any info is much appreciated.
