Hey all,
I need a hard disk diagnostic utility recommendation.

1. Two requirements: has to run in DOS mode, would hopefully come on a bootable image, or can be added to a bootable image

2. Will work on a RAID array

We got some new machines at work, and out of about 40, 3 so far have had bad problems with their Raid controllers. The operating system chews itself up a little bit at a time while its running in Raid 0 mode.

I'm not interested in getting these machines fixed (we just send them back), just in quickly finding out which machines have problems. Thanks!!

The example program i'm using, which I love and suits my needs perfectly for testing Ram is memtest86 (www.memtest86.com)

Thanks

Hardware or software RAID?

If it's hardware, your best bet is the diagnostic package from the card mfr. Should be accessible from the card's BIOS at boot time, or at least as a download from the web site.

For software RAID, you might want to try the HW diagnostics from the hard drive manufacturer. They run in DOS mode & will tell you if the drive is healthy (which may be causing your problems in a software RAID setup). You'll need a different utility for every different drive MFR... if your supplier is shipping the same hard drives in every system, then it'll be a little easier to diagnose them.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply... I used Seatools from Seagate. Hardware RAID.
