The 9700 Pro that I bought from newegg was a refurb, and while it installed fine, upon burn-in in my 400SC, it produced a pink screen, and when I rebooted, it failed to respond. So, I'm back to my GF-FX.

Every mobo and video card I have bought in the past three years has been a refurb from newegg.com, and I have never had any problems, until this 9700Pro.

So, I'm a little gunshy about getting refurb'ed Radeons. Should I be? Or was this an isolated incident? What kind of reputation for durability do the 9700 Pro's have?

Mine died, just got replacement from ATI today. Weird.

my friend has had his radeon 9700 pro for about 1.5 years now, he's a big gamer, and he hasn't had it crap out yet. So I've seen no problem...

OK, here is the thing. The shim between the heatsink and core are often crappily constructed and may not even be touching. I'd check that first, because it can easily cause a burnout if that is the case.
