I have a Dimension 2400 that I cannot get to connect to the network. The funny thing is that I can connect it to a different network with no problems at all. I have two buildings that have LAN's in them. In building A, I can connect the system and have no problems connecting to the network with either a DHCP or manual configuration. When I move it to building B, it will not work. I have tried everything. The configuration is correct and I have checked it a dozen times. The network cable is good, I have tried several cables that were known to be good. The switch port is good, I have taken a cable out of a working unit and plugged it into the Dimension and it does not work. In fact, the lights on the card and the switch do not light up. I have brought it back to building A and changed the configuration and plugged it in and it works fine. The swithes in both location are identical Cisco 2900. So, I have verified the NIC works, the cable works and the switch works. I had someone move it to a different location in the building thinking it was EMI. It did not work. I have other Dimensions and other non Dell systems that work fine all over the building. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

try to do a ipconfig renew and release

check what servers it is pulling, ipconfig /all

check to make sure it is in the correct workgroup

see if you can find a workstation in the other building using by it's ip Address.

this may sound crazy but install IPX/SPX and go into the properties ante tell it 803.3

The problem that I am having is getting it to work on a network where the IP address is manually configured, so the problem is not what IP it is pulling. I have verified all of the setting, IP, mask, dns server, gateway, workgroup, etc. And they are correct. I will try to install the IPX/SPX as you suggested and see if that works. Thanks for the input!!

Did you try a different port on that switch? Does another PC come up successfully on that same port?

Yes, I have tried a different port on the switch as well as using a known good port (one that was working just fine with another computer) and it still did not work.
