I think I'm going to get one of these just so I can intimidate people at meetings:

Never actually used one, but based on the specs it should be a screamer:

3.4GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (2MB on board cache)
up to 2GB RAM
15.4" WUXGA display
60GB 7200RPM HD (or 80GB 5400RPM)
128MB Mobility Radeon 9700
+ a bunch of other bells & whistles.

Fully loaded with all the goodies this beast will be over $5000

i got the latest dell catalog in the mail yesterday and they feature that beast.

They give battery life eon all laptops with 2hr and up. They left the battery life blank for the xps.

they also gave it a yellow (lowest) on the yellow, orange, purple dot portability rating. At 9.1 lbs, its just shy of being as portable as some small desktops.

Those small laptop keys are a major PITA... :2far:
On 15.4" and 17" widescreen laptops, the keyboards are actually full-size. Doesn't help that they're still the thin keys that you can only push down 0.5 cm ... :hmm:

I loved my laptop until it broke, but not for gaming. Not just because of power, but it's too cumbersome for gaming.

I would never buy a laptop for gaming.

I think 80% of people have their laptop always plugged in, so battery life is pointless. Most people also don't move their laptops around too much so portability is aslo not an issue.

:stupid: kinda

If you buy a mobile laptop, you bought it for its battery life and size.

If you buy a desktop replacement, you obviously didn't give a hoot about battery life since you need the performance, so screw the battery specs

I would certainly never BUY a laptop for gaming, but I do use my work machine (Latitide D800) for gaming all the time & I am actually surprised at how well it handles. I was really worried about the KB size as well, so I took an external KB along the first time I went to a LAN party but I never even plugged it in.

I run the UT2K4 demo at full widescreen resolution (1280x800? Somewhere in that range) and performance is great. I can't turn on all of the visual goodies or it locks up - heat related, I believe, since the fan runs almost continually while I play.

I'm sure battery life will suck big time for the XPS, but like most people, I rarely turn on my laptop away from my desk unless it's to take it to a quick meeting.

I AM a little interested to know who will be buying these things.... not too many people would be interested in a $5000 gaming machine, I would think.
