My last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of super happiness and super frustration. First off, my jackass of a boss was being a royal prick for the week before my wedding. The arse was forcing me to work 16+ hour days everyday including weekends. This meant that I couldnt get things done for the wedding and was getting really frustrated with the situation. I ended up having to send my mother with a digital camera to buy the wedding gifts for my soon to be wife. I was shown the pics and made my choices, which worked but wasnt what I wanted to do. On top of that out of town guests were arriving but I couldnt see anyone due to the schedule....made me even more annoyed.

My boss decided to be nice and let me come in late on Wed and Thurs, so I could get somethings done. Unfortunately, I still wasnt able to get everything done, so on Thursday when I realized that there was no way I could get necessary things done in time to get into work, I called in....got a message back to call another attorney at our office to give him one of my tasks to do, which I did, and that was the end of it.

Friday, 27th, was a rush of picking up people at the airport and getting people there tuxes. On top of that my dad got into town and I wanted to see him, but never was able to. NOT GOOD...since I was supposed to have dinner with him.

Saturday, 28th, was the rehersal dinner....more running around and finally get to see my dad, who is furious at me for the night before. Realized when food was about to be served that my fiance had failed to order the vegetarian meals for the veggies, which meant that I had to run around taking care of that. Thus, I was dealing with my dad and other issues...still had a good time, but could have been better. On top of that because of all the other crap the seating chart still wasnt done, so we stayed up until 1am finishing it.

Sunday, 29th, D-Day....the wedding. I get woken up by a call at 9am from my dad wanting to have breakfast or lunch. I tell him lunch and then proceed to get everything together. From that point on the day was just a big blur.....nice lunch with my dad and my younger brother, at which time my father proceeded to tell everyone at the restaurant that I was about to ship off. The waitress loved it and the manager bought us a round of drinks. We get back and its time to get ready for picures. The photographers assistant cant remember my freaking name, which drove me nuts...but otherwise everything else was great. The wedding went off without a hitch, great party, and just a supremely amazing time.

Monday - Tuesday ...enough said.

Wednesday, have to go back to work. My boss is unavailable, so I have to wait until he calls in to talk with him. He never talks with me. I have nothing to do, and this unnerves me a bit.

Thursday, completely out of things to do, once again doesnt talk with me, but has the other attorney come to his house. I figure at this point that I am in for it, the other guy thinks I am nuts. I honestly spent the day just twiddling my thumbs.

Friday, my boss is in, I tell him that I need to go over some things with him so I can finish the tasks that I am doing. He says sure, we have a meeting during which he asks me to get all my files. At this point, I figure this is the end of the line. I end up having to wait until he gets done with a client, at which point our meeting resumes, during which time, the focker fires me for not coming into work the Thursday before my wedding. (first time ever getting fired) I explain the situation to him but it was worthless.

End sum of that job, 3 months of hell. Had to cut 2 trips down in time due to this arse and postponed the honeymoon by a month because he asked me to....and then he fires me. What a mother focker. I should have quit when I originally wanted to, but at this point, I dont know of anyone who thinks I was in the wrong given the circumstances and how he wasnt giving me anytime for my life, when I had my wedding going on.

So now, just looking for work, trying to get the wedding pics up for online perusal, and just enjoying married life.

How is that for the last 2 weeks!

sue the bastard - did he give you any kind of warning or written reprimand??

i think that's kinda lame...

it's crap like that, that really pisses me off. when the "company" is more important than the individual.....ughhhh

 but ufcrusher seems like a name that would stick in someone's mind

:heh:

seriously man, i'm sorry to hear about the job. that sucks big-time. what an incredible ass....and i thought SD was supposed to be a pretty good legal market as far as the work/life balance goes. i hope you can find another position soon....at least getting fired for taking a day off for your wedding seems like a fairly reasonable excuse. any firm that doesn't think it's reasonable probably isn't a place you want to work.

anyway, congrats, and i hope everything works out for you

I'm with hoey. Is there any grounds to sue? This guy was a bastard, and did hire you even when you told him you had to be gone for the wedding. It seems that he hoped you would forget about it or something.

i knew it. i knew it.
i knew that boss had a$$hole written all over his face when he gave you a hard time about wanting to take a week off for a honeymoon after your wedding which is the NORM!

my very first boss was a similar kind of jerk, but looking back he did me a favor. i learned NEVER to work for someone like that again, and to quit first if i did happen to encounter one as such.

putting that aside - congrats ufcrusher, and enjoy your new life!

I had one boss like this - thankfully he was fired because he was an a$$hole. Now whenever I interview with a company (yes, I am looking but only to see whats out there) I am checking them out as much as they are checking me out. Life is too short to work for an inconsiderate jerk. UF you lasted much longer than I would. I would have just quit without notice and told him how I felt as I was about to walk out the door (a reference from him isn't worth it).

UF - I sincerely hope you enjoy your time right now with your wife. I also hope you find a job quickly - Mrs. Kevster hasn't found a new job yet and she's starting to get discouraged (I try to cheer her up though). Good luck and congratulations on tying the knot!

While this does sound like a wrongful termination to my layman ears, is it really a good idea to sue someone who works for a law firm?

it's amazing the crap that happens in law firms, especially as far as race/sex based harassment goes. they're lawyers, they should know better.....but they don't seem to.

unfortunately, i doubt it's wrongful termination. you're boss can usually fire you at any time, for any reason unless you are under contract or he the firing violates your civil rights.
