if a digital camera asks for xd cards, does that mean it will only accept xd?

what about type I vs type II compact flash... are they completely different, or are they somewhat interchangeable?

nope its all different, weather it be sd/mmc, compact flash, xd, or sony memorystick, you can only use what the camera was made for

Yeah, XD is really small and thin. It would not fit compact flash. I know some things have adapters but i think that is only type 1 and type 2 flash. XD is tiny and i believe it is the only type of card that would fit in its slot.
