i picked up my 2 200GB drives from CC today and its now time to install them. I am going to install them in a stripe. I kept debating on how i should install them (RAID 0, RAID 1, or 2 independent drives) and i decided to just go for it. I tend to backup often, so i should be set. I dont have that much to loose. If its important, then its backed up.
I am in the process of cloning right now. In the end my machine will be a 1.6GHz G5 with 1.25GB RAM and 400GB RAID array!!!

defrag, whats that?
Macs defrag files smaller than 20MB in size on the fly. Historically, macs rarely, if ever, required defragging.
What do i need the space for? dont know, but for the price, i couldnt pass it up

You should mirror them if you don't need the room, unless you have a good backup system. Wouldn't that suck if you got all your files transferred to those drives & then one of them takes a dump!
that's a lot of porn space...

Are you happy with the 1 G5 chip? I'm sure it still flies with all that RAM, however I wonder if you ever have second thoughts about going with the second chip?

i thought about mirroring, and may eventually reimage the drive and mirror it, but i really wanted to see that 400GB total!
if its vital, i have more than one backup. If a drive were to die, i would be ok.
One chip is good. I have played with a few dual 2.0's and i can tell the speed difference. I have a customer with a few loaded 2.0's (8GB RAM), and those are awesome. They do tons of high res photography for the auto industry. some of their images are insamely large.
When i bought mine, I got a 20% discount, and all i could afford was the base model. It was a present to myself for getting a new job that paid much much better. I wasnt able to customize it either, which kinda blew. Overall, I still love my machine.
I just installed 2 of the powermacs from VT yesterday. They still had the id label from VT on the case latch.

I'm sad I missed out on the Circuit city deal for those drives. It would have pushed me past the 1TB level.
