View Full Version : I am very disappointed with ABIT

Right around Christmas, my beloved Ti-4600 crapped out on me....no big deal, it was a year and a half old and had been overclocked quite a bit. Even though it was out of warranty, ABIT replaced it for me for only $25, so far so good.

When I received my replacement card I knew immediately that something was up. The card was having problems running at the default clock speeds and would frequently cause lock ups...more than likely a crapily refurbed card. Two nights ago I was playing some UT2004 and the videocard overheated, got mad amounts of artifacts and I shut off the computer. Remind you, this thing isn't overclocked even 1mhz. On rebootal of the computer, there are rows of !!!!! (exclamation points) on the screen and most everything is incomprehendible...the card definitely fried itself. I replaced it for the time being with my friend's extra mx440 and it works fine (slow, but fine) and promptly signed up for another RMA with ABIT, seeing as the card was only 2 months old.

Today I receive this e-mail in my box:

Dear Customer:
This is ***** from Abit RMA dept.
We had received your RMA request today.
The request# is ******.
Sorry we had run out of GF4 TI4600 VGA card right now.
Can we upgrade you from GF4 TI4600 to FX5600 XT (with accessory
and not any other charge). You can go our website to search the information
about this VGA card. Please let me know you want to accept this upgrade or not.
Thank you

They are offering me a total horse **** card that is clearly not an "UPGRADE" of any kind, in fact, it is a serious downgrade (about 5 thousand 3dmarks and 33% general frame rate loss). The card also retails for about $40 less than a TI-4600 I replied telling them that I would gladly accept an FX5700 Ultra, as it is comparable in price and performance to my Ti-4600, but it is wrong of them to try to offer potentially vulnerable customers a falsley claimed upgrade. I chose ABIT because of their performance reputation, not for a budget bin DX9 wannabe card.

Maybe you missed the part where....

After praising ABIT for their kindness in RMA'ing my card past warranty for a small fee (read first paragraph in original post), the disappointment came that they sent me a card that I DID NOT overclock and still WOULD NOT perform under standard core and memory speeds and then proceeded to offer me a card that is a peice of crap and calling it an "upgrade". I'm sorry if you misunderstood my post and made me look like a "cheap ass motha f**ker" to some ABIT sales rep, maybe it's a bit more clear to you now.

The original card I recieved when I forked over $300 back in the summer of 2002 lasted a solid year and a half under some pretty rough conditions and I was glad they RMA'd it for an insignificant fee, but was bothered by the quality of the replacement part (which was never overclocked) and then the craftiness of their staff to offer an "upgrade" which is truly a major downgrade.
