My older GF FX's fan would speed up and slow down with heat. I just got a Radeon9800P, and its fan is fairly loud...should it be slowing down when I'm not gaming?

that's interesting. I have the 128mb version and never here it. Is it constant? I'll have to pay more attention when i play warctaft and i'll get back to you.
I just picked up one of those Arctic-Cooling VGA coolers. They're great for the 9800.

when i play a game, it's loud for about 45secs, and then it decreases dramatically. Normally, i don't hear it at all. Maybe you got heating issues in your case? Is your comp a custom?

Is that the "VGA Silencer", Apex? I heard good things about those, but I bought a retail 9800Pro expressly because of the warranty, which I would not want to violate.

The case is the standard Dell 400SC. Oddly enough, as I type this, the fan is very quiet, but it wasn't yesterday, when I was doing about the same thing. (Maybe it's that loud music from my car stereo...):heh:

Fans just breaking in I guess. Usually they go from loud to louder.

The answer to the question is definately NO!
We have sold and installed a bunch of Radeon video cards of all models and none of them have a varaible fan speed on them.
