i just got a call from a so called company CPC, and they claimed that i'm "highly gullible from the information i've provided" (actual words they used). so in order to prevent myself from getting duped, i had to give them my banking information...

i immediately said an emphatic "NO!", he started to make a sorry attempt to try to explain that it's necessary for me to "verify my information so they could block all unauthorized access to my accounts."

as i was started to say "so you want me to give you my checking account information b/c i'm stupid?" but he hung up before i had a chance to finish.

:disa:

wow! the lengths people go through to lie/cheat...:(

give the phone number to the police or some sort of policing body...

I really hate scammers

You would at least think they could come up with something better than that.

you would think he would at least practice his "speel" (sp?) a little better

i want to report it so bad, but it came through my cell, and was listed as private number.

Isn't there a way to trace calls, even if it's listed as private? something like *something?

You should have told him:

"Yeah, you'll have to speak with my accountant for that information. You can reach him at [insert local police department phone number here]"

that would be cool if it worked.. but i dont think that he would fall for the whole accountant trick.

oh and does your cell phone provider have internet billing. if so you should be able to check all the phone calls that you made and received during the billing period. so you should be able to check what number he used even though the number was private.

that's actually pretty funny. "hi, we've heard you're gullible. can you please give us your bank information so we can protect you?"

"oh crap, you're right, i am gullible. please take my bank account number and keep me safe!!"

:hihi:

Yeah, people are so gullible....
Just the other day, while I was replying to this email I got from these people from Nigeria who needed help taking some money that was tied up in one of their banks, I heard story like yours on the news. Poor old couple lost a grip. I thought to myself I'll be more careful with the money I gonna make by helping this polite Nigerian family. They used to part of the ruling class before coup you know....

yea u should still be able to get the # on your online acct even thought it listed private number on your cell.

kinda off topic, but isn't it illegal to receive telemarketers and such on your cell?

Sure is -- although from what I've heard, things are a little murky if you've taken advantage of number portability and converted your landline number to a mobile. (which is probably unlikely in this particular case, but still a valid point to bring up).

Definately report this one -- giving the time and date of the call, as the cell provider should be able to trace the call this way.
