Ok people, are the kind of a person that can justify getting an expensive watch or would you rather buy a cheam timex or something along those lines.

For example i'm the kind of person that can spend a lot of money

On a pair of shoes
Clothes
a watch
and a car

even if i have to sacrafice a couple of meals.

what about you

I have a large watch "collection" ranging from $100 cheap watches that I wear on a regular basis to $700+ watches that I only wear at certain times.

I have a couple of watches in the $1500 range that I have my eye on to purchase, but have other more important expenses for the time being.

we shall go with the most expensive pair.

Having worked in watch repair, changing batteries, I can tell you that the expensive ones are worth it in terms of the engineering that goes into them. The thing is though, I've not yet seen one that makes it truly worth more than another, outside of for cosmetic reasons. They're all worth the same in terms of keeping time, even though the expensive ones might keep time better than another, you need to synch up any watch against the standard anyways (http://www.time.gov ), so it doesn't matter much.

That said, I would love to have a nice Tag, or Movado, or Rolex, or Cartier, or etc.

I'm wearing a Swiss Army watch that my Grandfather gave me on his deathbed (quite literally). It's ugly as hell... but he was a good Grandpa, and this way I can feel like he's still with me.

another vote for the cell phone...

but when i have some more more to blow, maybe i'll get a movado/eliro...

but it's really hard to justify $600 on something that my cell phone (which was free) does.

:stupid: I hate having things strapped to me so watches are pretty much out. Besides, I am rarely out of eye shot of a clock. If I did get something though it would be a nice pocketwatch. I've always thought they were pretty cool. And no I could never really see spending too much on a watch. Doesn't seem like good return on the money spent.

I have a G-Shock that's fifteen years old and literally running on its original battery, a couple of Nike running watches and a Tag Heuer S-el that my wife gave me for our wedding. It's expensive but a damn good watch and, next to my wedding ring, the only "jewlery" I own. It's 11 years old now and the only thing you have to do is toss in a new battery every few years.

Well I had a watch my mom bought me from Home SHopping network a long time ago and well it lasted like 4 years, then it broke and I cut teh straps off and put it on the wall next to my pillow. So it lasted like 6-8 years.

I really hated my watch tan line

I go with the cheap watches. I have a habit of breaking them and I don't mourn a $50 watch quite like I would a $400+ watch. I hope to get a nice watch one day, but not until I stop destroying the ones I have.

:bonk: You sick slave to fashion. Sacrifice a meal? Thats just crazy talk.

I think Thomas Jefferson said something about if you buy something cheap you remember the good price for a day but you remember how cheap it is far longer.

I buy nice if I can get a deal or I need it.
I'm in the market for roley but can only afford a foley. :P
I'm thinking of flying out to Switzerland and picking one up next year. According to friends and family it's about the same price to fly there and pick one up and vacation for a week as it is to buy one off a jeweler here.

Function not form for me. I've never paid more than $100 for a watch. (Shoot I don't think I've ever paid more than $40 for a watch.) If it keeps time and doesn't look too ridiculous it's fine by me. I don't see the point in shelling out that much for a timepiece.

personally i have these 2

The g-shock Riseman, My everyday watch that i can literally kill with, throw under tanks, use as a jackhammer, almost indestructible (sp?)

and my evening watch, a klaus-Cobec Couture Sport Leather Gold watch... long name but oh well :)

I have a Breitling. I have heard the cost was well over $1500 but it was a gift so I don't know exactly how much it was. I really do like it but I'm not sure I would ever pull the trigger if I had to pay for it.

I have a KC $50 watch from my wife. Does its job.
I think I would invest on an expensive watch, but I don't think I'd ever buy another watch after that one.

I hate wearing wrist watches because it gets in the way when I'm using a computer. I am right handed, but I also wear my watch on my right handed. So when I am writing it sometimes distracts me. Back in high school I used to use a pocket watch I picked up at fossil. Now I just use my cell phone to keep time.

i have a few watches (a timex ironman, a citizen, and a swiss army watch). the latter two were around $100 (although i got the swiss army one on sale for like $40).

but i rarely wear these watches....i always use my cell phone.

i don't have a problem per se with expensive watches, but i haven't reached a point yet when i felt that i had enough money/it was worth it.

I agree with Merlin. I don't wear watches, jewelry, ties, etc. because I don't like things dangling from me, except pretty women, of course.

I don't see myself buying a watch worth more than $1000 but I don't mind getting an expensive one for my wife.

I've never liked wearing watches, I don't like the way they feel and I don't think they look right on me. I just use my cell phone now to check up on the time if need be.

I have a couple 700+ watches that I wear on a regular basis. I have a mini-collection of watches that I like to wear, depepnding on the occasion: a nice gold ultra-thin seiko, a Gucci, a Movado, a nice Tag Heuer and a very nice though somewhat heavy two-tone Geneva. What can I say? I like watches.

ummmm you're supposed to wear a watch on your left hand

It's not natural for me to strap the watch onto my left hand though. I am ambidextrous. When I first started playing basketball, I used to shoot lefty. Now I shoot righty. I can bowl either lefty or righty (more consistent right-handed though). I was teaching myself to play tennis with both hands, but then I stopped playing tennis altogether.

I'm weird, i know.

Psst...they advertise that one in all the men's magazines. (playboy, Maxim, etc) you can get that for $189 from time pieces international....although its with a two tone metal band.

I dont feel like listing all my watches....would take too long.

Ray, I am the same way. I am also ambidextrous and wear my watch on my right hand. I have learned to do things from both sides (it can be difficult sometimes) and there are some things I do right-only and left-only. A couple good examples are I golf right-handed only and I shoot left-handed only, but I can use chopsticks with both sides.

I wouldn't mind having a Patek, but it wouldn't be worth it for me. I haven't even bothered changing the battery on my Rado. I use the clock in the lower right hand corner of my screen. LOL

To each their own, some people like to drop 2k-4k on a sound system for their car, some like to have the latest and greatest computer components. I like watches. So yeah I do have a moderately expensive one that I wear all the time, and the special one that I like wearing for special occasions. I have a pocket watch, I have digital ones, I guess I'm a watch collector.

I have 3 watches...

A timax one for running($30), Fossel casual one I use for everyday activities($75), and a Calvin Kline one I use for special occsions(around $200...it was a gift).

I also wear watch on my right arm. It's a good practice back in VN because thieves usually ripped pple's watches/jewelry off their left arms when they are on bikes or motocycles. It's safer to wear on the right.

i'm surprised brain hasn't replied. me thinks he has a nice watch collection.

i have a skagen that was 50% off ($50 shipped) back when ashford had that great 50% code floating around. and i got a nice kenneth cole one to wear for more special occassions. i have no need for anything fancier.

i saw ads for rado watches. those look really nice and sleek. :)

my parents got matching omega watches. that'd be nice if i were married i guess.

I've been wearing the same watch for 10 years - it's a Pulsar that has both analog (with sweep second hand) and digital (time, stopwatch, date) displays. I think it cost me about $100 when I got it. I really like having both analog and digital functions available (I've been using the stopwatch at my son't track meets) without having to go to one of those "chronograph" type watches (that are much bulkier than suites me).

I use my cell phone too.

I haven't had a watch for almost 10 years. And I too am right handed and wear watches on my right hand, just a habit.

BTW, isn't rado just an expensive swatch? :P
j/k, they look really nice
