Depending on your room, you might be able to put the storage rig in your closet and run some cables to cut noise. HD, drive, fan noise sux.

My Maxtor is pretty loud and I want a quieter seagate or something. How loud are the raptors, btw?
For an HTPC do you need really fast hd's or are 7200's enuff?

I just ordered a seagate 80 gigger on Saturday at BB. It was on sale for $100 with a $40 mir and I had $50 BB cash for a survey or something = <$20 shipped. Thing dropped in half to $50 so I gonna see if I can get the price adjusted to -$30 after Mir.

having that many hard drives is going to make the case really hot, and will require a large power supply, which means more noise from the fans. Plus mounting all 10 will require a lot of space in the case AND 1 or possibly 2 IDE cards.

I suggest just using one or 2 hard drives (1 OS, 1 large for files). Lower noise, lower heat, better storage solution (no having to go through each hard drive looking for a file).
