Ever wonder if your rig was running too hot?
This guy did some testing with the most popular P4 ocing mobos, Abit and Asus. It confirmed a lot of reports people had with those brand mobos. Hopefully he'll test some of the other brands one of these days.
Props to professorFate at BE for some very good work:

DF,
This is a new side of you I've never seen. You sooo sensitive.
Did I diss intel? I was just passing on some great info on the misleading temps of mobo's. If I found one on AMD I'd also post that. This has nothing to do with intel per say, just that one mobo shows way lower temps and one shows way higher temps. You of all people should appreciate that. Do you have an abit or an asus mobo? Do you oc? Would you like to know if those temps were 10 degrees off one way or the other? I would? Cuz sometimes my temps seem higher than they should be.
What did you think of his testing methods. Cutting the stock hs and putting probe there was a great idea, no?
:( Try to help some people out....

Just because the tests were done with an Intel processor doesn't limit it to an Intel only problem. In fact, ABIT, ASUS and many other mobo manufacturers even on an AMD platform will record very varying temperatures. Like CF said, some will indiscretely under or over voltage the vcore to make it either overclock easier under "stock" voltages, or run cooler under "stock" voltages. I have an ABIT motherboard for my xp2100+, and the same chip when put in either an MSI or Gigabyte board (can't recall which it was exactly)was reading about 10 degrees celsius cooler. Both the boards were running at the same voltage (according to hardware doctor/motherboard monitor) and I used the same heatsink on each. This was definitely either a flaw in one of the motherboards, a deliberate trick, or just a variance of where the temperature was taken, I'm not really sure.
The point is, that if this test were run on various AMD supported chipsets, the results would be similar....just in this case, the Intel chip was used.

:hmm: Intel loyalty? Your joking right? There is only brand loyalty in sheep IMO. I think this time 2 years ago most of us had Nsuckias cards cuz they were the best. Now what cards is everyone getting? Before that Voodoo used to make a great cards... You understand the word coming outa my mouth?
Trust me on this. If intels Prescott doens't ramp up the way they're saying it will and AMD does ramp the way AMD want's it to, your next upgrade will be....
Loyalty to a sports team is a different beast. I watched all 12 seasons where we didnt get no rings after the 88 season. Thats my team, np. But there's no way in hell im buying an inferior product for 12 years in a row when I can get a better product for less. That excludes windows OS, of course, cuz I am sheeplike in that respect.
I will stop playing with you DF as I can see you have become very fond of your P4c and don't want to consider that AMD could of been a better buy.
Let me make you the same offer I make others about the lakers. If your <insert product, team, etc.> starts doing you wrong you are welcome to come over to our side. ;)
