i went to the magic castle last nite, and had to take out a second mortgage on the house so i can pay for the trip. (j/k, but that place is pretty expensive).

i did go to the ATM to get some money. the first attempt did not work as the ATM responded with "unable to complete transaction". so i went to the next ATM and received my money...then noticed that my balance was a lot lower than it should have been. then i realized that my first transaction was recorded, and deducted from my account.

so i IMMEDIATELY called WaMu's CS. they were very friendly.

so what do i get to do now? i get to wait FIVE - SEVEN business days for them to send me an affadavit to sign, then i have to wait another FIVE - SEVEN business days for them to respond and replace the money, IF they find it in their error...sigh...

i'm so glad that the bank is so quick at charging me interest on this, penalty on that, but when THEY screw up, i have to wait, and i can't charge them penalty for it...

word of advice if you do switch banks...DO NOT GO TO BANK OF AMERICA! I'm a WaMu customer because I had a craptacular experience with the a**holes at BofA

yeah, i know, i didn't like the CS at BofA either. HOWEVER, no one else has as many ATMs as BofA. sigh....oh well...

my suggestion: stop using ATMs. I've been getting cash back from my credit card when I go food shopping. It's essentially the same thing, but it counts towards the rewards I get on my credit card. ATMs don't get you anything. It may inflate your credit card bill slightly, and you need to have discipline in making sure you pay it off, but I think it's better than using crappy ATMs.

I also HATE BofA. I had them back in WA state and they drove me insane. Hey look you don't want a pic on your debit card, wait this is the third time you are telling us that? Ok we will put a 6yr old pic on it. Oh wait you want online banking, ya you can't get up to the minute infomation on transactons.... HEY look we are trying to add more value to our customers, we are pushing online banking, BUT you must login.... Huh I was using it for a year and now I have to wait 2 weeks while you mail me my password WTF.

I drop that bank like a bad habit, I am pissed now that they bought out fleet here in boston. Fleet is great in downtown boston since it is everywhere, but I will probably switch to get away from the idiots at BofA.

AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!

Fleet Bank worked great when I was in Boston! But since BofA is taking over, I would agree that you have to get the heck away from them. I guess you could go with Citizen's bank :-/

I try to avoid banks and use credit unions. Most people say how they cannot apply for credit unions because they have no way of being connected (ie an employer). For me, I didnt know that and just walked into my credit union, said I wanted to open an acount and put 2 one hundred dollar bills on the table. 30 minuets later I was in, I love lower APR for my truck paymnet.

credit unions are good for those good interest rates on big purchases. but the credit union i'm a member of (thanks mama) doesn't have its own ATMs and the ones I can use are so few. i had BofA for awhile. i had no problems because i hardly had to call CS and i loved how they had so many ATMs.

This (http://www.wescom.org/) is a pretty common credit union, at least in my area, that is easy to become a member of.

I left BofA after they charged me $6 for 6 "excessive" withdrawels. This was a standard part of my account, that I new about, and was even warned about when I got my account.

The kicker was an additional $1 that they charged me, because the $6 charge counted as another withdrawel! They were charging me for the privledge of being charged!

I took my measely little money to a credit union. :)

ouch, being charge to be charged. That always ticks me off. Usually you can call in and get the charge removed.

I still do business with a bank in my old town, they don't charge me any fees since I have been with them, and Ileave it open just to have it. They have lots of ATM for the area and were generally nice. The only place they lack is customer confidentiality (sp?). My mom went through the drive through and ask her balance and gave her last name. The teller goes well Sister lastname has X dollars and Mother lastname has X dollars (where mother and sister are inserted their names). The teller gave her my sisters balance, they were under seperate accounts, not a minor parents account, just because she had the same last name, my mom was PO to say the least. AND this same bank, when I login to my online account I can see my dad's balance, statements, last withdraw etc and transfer funds from him to him. This was not a parent minor account either, nor did he give permission for this, I didnt mind becuase if I owed him money I could transfer it across and vice versa. He also liked the fact that I could print out his real time balance and current statement so he could balance his checkbook.

hmmm...the credit union might not be a bad idea. maybe i'll keep some money with WaMu, and the credit union will be where i save my money...

I use a credit union from washington called 1st Tech, GREAT CU. If you are interested in a credit union, be sure to look up if there are any atm's around that support the co-op network or something like that. Since most all credit unions are part of it, you can use another credit unions atm at no charge :)

Only one in boston though, and that is at the airport :(

Check out this link (http://www.creditunion.coop/cu_locator/index.html) to see which credit unions are operating near you.

For what it's worth, I have heard of people doing exactly what look_ma did-- just ask to open an account.

what if you only have $10 left? you end up owing them $2?
stupid.

No, if you have $10 left, they will charge you $12 and dig into your overdraft. Your overdraft will charge you $20 for dipping into it per trans action. You thinking you have $10 left buy a cheeseburger on the way home, a very costly one now too. -2(two dollars under from 12 dollar charge) -20(1st overdraft) -5(cheese burger) -20 (2nd overdraft). -2-20-5-20=-47 for the banks courtisy of providing services.

I am doing banking with WaMu and a Credit Union bank. I love WaMu for the free checking account;while, my credit union gives me the highest interest rates in CDs and Money Market.

My Edwards Credit Union just changed it's policy to offer to the public. Check it out if you close by one:

Here is another one I have in the L.A. County area:
