How Much should they pay me?

So I'm helping a veterinarian practice with their computer network. They have 5 wireless computers and a server. I'm fixing any problems that may occur, and going to set up their new cable modem. So how much an hour should i ask for?

By the way this is in South Orange County, Ca.

Going rate is about $50+ / hour for network services on-site in California.

What I usually do is cut them some slack. I charge $25 / hour for PC Repair and $35 / hour for Network stuff. It undercuts everyone and makes you look really good.

Be sure to mention what the going rate is so they are aware of the differences in your prices, it gets you word of mouth real quick.

When I had an active side business going, I usually charged a flat fee for my services for the first 2 hours depending on what they need ($50 for 1st 2 hours for PC stuff, $75 for basic network services, $150 for advanced stuff like router/switch config). Then I would go with a reduced hourly rate afterward. If they wanted to buy blocks of my time, I would work out a contract with them for a reduced hourly rate such as desktop support 20 hours for $400 or 50 hours for $1000.

If they like your work, they will definitely jump on this and it helps you keep a steady stream of business coming in. I don't have time to do it actively now, but it is always something I can go back to in a heartbeat.

I took Corsec's advice and cut the price to $40 an hour. I really don't know how often i'll help them past this week, so an easy to calculate fee seemed the best. Oh and coincidentally you might be catching me in the software forum for the next couple days. ;)

we charge $85 onsite here no matter what we're doing (network, virus scanning, etc)

charge $45 in house...

and were the lowest here in Oklahoma City.
