View Full Version : porn advertising gone too far

Yesterday, I started reading The Rape of Nanking. Today I was looking for some additional photos since the book only has a few. I did this (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=nanking+photos) google search.
Per usual, I clicked in the first link and was quite supprised to find myself at a porn site (apparently specializing in rape). After clicking back (a few times so as to escape the mousetrap) to the search results I realized that I was looking at a whole page of porn sites.
This is disgusting. Akin, IMHO, to using the Holocaust or 9/11 to attract folks to a porn site. Nothing wrong with porn, but a lot wrong with the way it's been advertised in this case.

Yuh, little kids research stuff like holocaust and 9/11 and that is what they see. pr0n companies have been at is for ages. I remember back in the day when one of my friends went to whitehouse, com (used comma so no link) instead of .gov for a school presentation, needless to say he had to do some explaining.

Nanking was no joke. The Japanese were terribly cruel and evil to those people. It's funny how a lot of other atrocities got publicized but Nanking was kinda glossed over. Maybe cuz it was in China....

Isn't that usually the case though when it involves certain minority groups? :shake: I happen to be reading a book about China right now called 1421 and the author supports his claim that the Chinese were in fact the first people to "discover" many lands (including America), although other historians claim otherwise.

Oh? Then why does it bother you to have the pirates links, pop-ups and pop-unders?
For many of us, there is a lot wrong with porn. :)

My problem is not with the content of those sites**, but the fact that they are using a serious tragedy in a sick attempt to promote their site. A similar situation would be if a google search for 9/11 photos turned up pages and pages of links to sites about, oh say, Catholicism. That would piss me off too because they would be trying to use a serious tragedy to promote their religion.
To those that say to read the site description first: i agree and normally do. call it a momentary lapse of reason.
**actually, i sort of do have a problem with the content of those particular sites (rape sites) but that's another thread alltogether.
