View Full Version : I need some good walking shoes...
my old Nike's aren't cutting it any more. All of a sudden, they give me blisters. Does any one have any good or bad shoe reviews before I go shopping?

Thanks Obby! You've had good luck with them then?

one other word: New Balance. I always wore Addidas, but then about 4 years ago i tried New Balance. My last 6 or so pairs of running shoes have been New Balance.
But for real...if you want a good fit, go to a good running store and get properly fitted. Not like Dick's or the Sports Authority where some teenager working an afterschool job will announce your shoe size to you without ever bringing out the branick device (the think you measure your feet with). Go to a place that specializes in running/walking shoes.

i've become a new balance fan, mostly because my feet are wide and most shoes start too narrow...

thats the only kind I will wear-they seem to last so much longer than Nike and types like Newbalance..my last pair were Adidas Cairo III's which are women's Adidas, I have some other pairs of Adidas but the Cairo's are the greatest! I have a pair of Adidas Universals which are made for wider feet-but after a long day on your feet-a bit more room is sooo comfy...but let me tell you-sometimes the men's Adidas in smaller sizes are just way to comfy to pass up! I would never switch from Adidas.
I don't even think we have a shoe store here. The closest I will probably get is our sporting goods chain.

When I lived in Boston I was only a couple miles from the New Balance outlet store. I had purchased a pair of cross training shoes, but after using it for running, baseketball and walking I found that they weren't really that comfortable because they were so wide (i have narrow feet). I had purchased the normal-width shoe and it turns out it was wider than my Adidas shoes.
Adidas has always fit me well and do last a long time as Obby mentioned. For casual and work shoes, I usually go with Timberlands because they fit me the best out of all brands.
Thanks everyone...now to wait for this batch of blisters to heal so I can go looking!

why dont you look ONLINE for them..I know CHAMPS online has some good deals..my cheerleaders get their shoes from there..last year they got 10 dollar NIKE cheer sneakers which were originally priced at 100 dollars..(they chose the brand-not me!~)..the further into the websight you go to-the cheaper the shoes get because they are last years models
LINK (http://www.champssports.com/catalog/modelsummary.cfm?TID=5555-09290413272009130343689-0&module=shoes&action=focusSearch&supercat=shoes&path=n&mvp=brand)
I thought of doing that, but I think one foot is a bit larger than the other (blush) and I'd rather try them on. If I try on a size somewhere first and make sure it's ok, then I wouldn't have a problem buying online. Thanks for the link Obby!

Yeah...I think people with narrow feet wouldn't like NB since they are much wider than, say, Nike. But to each his own :) Gotta love choice and competition.

It's been a while since I even considered other brands (I usually only check Nike and Adidas, because I've logged tons of miles with them, and they always hold up well...Air Max is my favorite ever, though a bit pricy), but New Balance are HEAVY! They just feel like strapping on cinder blocks to your feet.

i've had nike, reebok, adidas, new balance, and saucony running shoes. i found the nikes lacking in support (but they were a pretty cheap pair, so not necessarily representative of the whole nike line -- although i think that most nikes i've tried on seem to have far too little support/cushioning in the forefoot area for my tate). i love the old reeboks, but any that i've tried on in the last 8 years or so just seemed uncomfortable to me (soles are too hard). the adidas were uncomfortable and wore out too quickly. the new balance, while a good value, didn't provide proper support for my foot style and were giving me knee problems. i just got the sauconys and i like them ok but haven't run in them enough to judge.
for walking though i honestly think the big priority is finding a pair of shoes that feel comfortable (because there is less stress on your legs/feet with walking). as far as durability, it seems like it varies by the pair -- i haven't seen one brand that consistently seems to last longer than all other brands.

oh. you said walking shoes? nm. :D why walk when you can ride a bike?
This place rocks (http://www.dswshoe.com/)
I don't know what running is. let alone what the shoes would look like.
/me tightens his Dr. Martens. :P
I'd vote for new balance. I really think mine are comfortable. I use them to work out in, run and just regular all day shoes. I do have to say the Adidas ClimaCools are quite nice though. I have a pair of those as well taht I run in.

one more vote for Newbies over here. I've had my pair for almost 2 years and its still comfy as ever (808's, i think they are).

Just curious, do you find that the Velcro straps always wear out before the shoe does? I swore that I would never buy another pair that was Velcro.

New Balance has a great rep for comfy walking/running shoes. Great for wider feet and they make even wider versions...
Nikes are hit and miss with each model every year. They change them a lot. Kinda narrow for some people. Shox are not for everyone.
Adidas were a lot less comfy than Nikes for a long time. Air ruled back then. The last few years adidas has made some very nice shoes IMO. The last sets I got (bball Tmacs) felt narrow but their running shoes were nice.
I havent messed with reeboks lately.
There are shoes sites that compare various shoes but I think you should try different ones yourself.
Stop by the store after work or working out. Feet swell a little throughout the day while walking, etc. Wear some nice socks and test em out. Places like big 5 always have NB, Saucony, etc on sale. Footlocker has a 30% sale this week. The coupon is in the deals forum.
