View Full Version : Elective Plastic Surgery

I'm flipping through the stations and MTV has on a special about people who have elective plastic surgery trying to look like famous people. I find this ludicrous that people would go through all of these steps just to look like someone famous.
This begs the question a) would you ever have elective plastic surgery b) why or why not c) what do you think of these people trying to look like someone else.
I would probably not have elective plastic surgery although I cant say that I would definitely not have any. As for looking like a famous person - definitely not.

Depends. I think that some reconstructive surgery might be considered elective, but I might do that. Now, as for would I get surgery done to look like someone else, probably not. I'm too self-centered. Don't care enough about the opinion of others to go through that much effort to please them. I have some friends who will probably do it when they get older because they want to keep their looks. As long as they know what they're getting into, and have reasonable goals, all the more power to them. Kinda sad that our society puts so much emphasis on looks, but we do. We penalize ugliness and reward attractiveness.

I wouldn't do it to look like someone else either. But I definately can use a little work. (somedays a lot of work :))
I have absolutely no desire to look like someone else.
Hell, I hardly like the way *I* look, let alone someone else.
I would get my eyes done, but not to look like anyone else.

i suppose as i get older and more vain, i might consider some sort of lift or tuck, although i'd hope not. i'd rather be happy with the way i am.
as for that MTV show....that is just frightening. those people need to see a psychologist, not a plastic surgeon.
The people on the MTV show have WEIRD obsessions with their loved celebrities. I think they'll regret it later down the road. It's ridiculous. I wonder what the celebrities think of these people. As far as general plastic surgery. I wouldn't rule it out, if given the chance I think anyone would want to be BETTER looking but I have no strong urge to go spend a fortune for a rhinoplasty or anything like that.

The thing that really sickens me is that new show the swan. Taking advantage of the weakness in others to cash in. Pathetic.

Some therapists do recommend for some people that have mild body image problems to get plastic surgery. I fyou need it to feel happy than do it.

I find it ironic that the same number of people want to look like Marylin Manson as Mojo

I will never have plastic surgery.

there is something i wouldn't mind taking care of, not that it bothers me a lot, but if it was free i'd do it... damn genetics and inherited body structures.
I don't mind the chicas getting the breast implants
Since I helped pay for my sister's boob job, I'm not opposed to it.
I AM opposed to plastic surgery for the reason of looking like someone else (mostly facial surgery).
