Different people seem to do different things with their old electronics (both computer and other). I know some people here tack them to their wall, which is different. So what do you do with your old electronics?
Personally, if it works, it usually is moved to another room or handed out to someone who doesnt have the item. I have computer parts just laying around in different locations throughout my home, including 4 systems that are in different states of being deconstructed. For other electronics, they usually get moved into different rooms. I end up just setting them up and letting them collect dust. For example, I have numerous receivers other than my main systems, which are hooked up with old components in other rooms.
For things that are broken, I tend to take them apart to see what went wrong. Occassionally I will repair them, or attempt to repair them, but most of the time, I take it apart and then toss them.
So what do you do?
I recently donated 4 tower speakers, subwoofer and a center channel speaker to Goodwill. I gave my younger cousins an old system I had so they had something to play games on.
Sometimes I'll throw away extremely old computer parts, but otherwise I just keep them around in case I need it for repairing/troubleshooting purposes.
So, to answer your question: Donation, give to family
I'm a damn pack rat when it comes to electronics. I always keep everything, unless i know for sure that i will absoluty never need to use it. I always think that i might need it in the near future, which most of the time i do end up using it. So yea i gotta lot a **** just sitting around collecting dust.

Resell them or give them away.

I usually hand them down to peeps who do not have them, of course if there still in working order. I do however keep a back up computer in case one of the house hold ones fail, as in my case right now.

I tend to notice that the average value of components on ebay is $2. For example I have 2 unused 100T ethernet cards that go for almost nothing on ebay but sell for like $20 or more in stores so I keep it.

I recently offed a 200 Mb (note the "M", not a "G") drive on ebay. I love selling my old crap, just for the fascination that someone out there will buy it. Even for $2.00. The drive actually went for about $10.00.
A 100T ethernet card I would probably hang on to. That could actually be useful.

That's true so I only sell things that worth something. Otherwise I will give it away.

Here is a another tidbit to ponder....how often do you replace your equipment and for what reason?
It really depends on the equipment.....
my computers are usually kept until they annoy me for being too slow. I am going crazy with my current system and just havent replaced it yet. Part of the problem is I wont buy another Dell and so all the deals dont help.
My receivers get updated anytime there is a feature I cant live without.
My DVD players as I feel like.
My VCR never.
Game systems as they come out.
My Cd players, never had to, bought super high end and still has all the features and more than what is out.
Speakers, whenever I feel like it.
