View Full Version : Dead pixels on a new LCD?

Got my Dell PC from last week. Not too bad... 7 days from order placement to delivery.
Anyways... setup the LCD and it has one pixel that's always on and red when the backgroud is dark.
Should I call them about it? Or are they going to tell me to go pound sand?
Am I expecting too much that it should not be that way RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX?
Dave.

as silly as this sounds, try massaging the screen around the stuck pixels.
since you have only a few pixels stuck, they will probably tell you tough

ABSOLUTELY call them and have it replaced. I don't have an LCD, but I know dead pixels is one of the more common problems with LCD's. My friend got an eMachines pc (yeah, not too great) and had to return his LCD 3 times due to dead pixels, before finally getting a good one...

Do as ribitch says and give the LCD a massage...I had several pixels that were acting up and this helped out, but usually if a pixel is dead or stuck, it's permanent.
As for getting a replacement, it probably depends on where the stuck/dead pixel is at. I have a Cornea LCD monitor and I had 2 stuck pixels that were in the center of the screen, since the pixels were in the center, they determined that I should get a replacement, so they RMA'd me a new one. If your pixel is towards the edges, you may be out of luck, but I would recommend at least calling Dell and asking them, they may be more forgiving since it's fresh out of the box.

Ya I would call them. I have a Sony LCD and I bought a 4 year warranty. If a Pixel goes out they will send me a new one. That is what the guy told me when I bought it, i'll have to ready my contract.
I also found these weiord "smudges" from when I moved. I moved it ver carefully, there was nothing puttin pressure on the one part. It honestly looks like finger prints, but I carried out of my old house in to my new one.

I thought they are allowed to send out a LCD as long as it has less than x amount of dead pixels.
I don't have any on my dell 1800 but I did accidently put an 1/8 inch scratch that bugs the heck out of me.

from my understanding most if not all manufacturers have a minimum % of bad pixels. If you have less than the given number, then you get to live with it.

Thanks all... I did a little massaging... to no avail.
It is in the lower-left 1/16th of the screen... and only shows when the background is dark... but I guess I just expected all to work right out of the box, you know?
I will give Dell a call, none-the-less.
Thanks again.
Dave.
Dell has a 30 day return policy. If anything, you can just return the whole thing and reorder when another deal comes along.

I have a really bad feelig you have been heavily lied to. Industry standard is usually that it has to be multiple pixels the size of a dime or quater or bigger for a replacement to take effect. If you were told this from bestbuy that they would replace it for 1 pixel bad, then you have most definatly been lied too. You can still try though.
Thanks leon for having some sense, most real companies will not totally screw you when you have just gotten their product out of th box.
I dont see why you would not call for one pixel, you purchased the monitor with the understanding that all the pixels worked.

Pixl policy does vary from one manufactuter and seller to another. It can depend on how many pixls and where they are located. One or two may not be enough for a replacement- although they can be irritating. It certainly does not hurt to ask- Dell can be generous in their policies. Sometimes if they say no it can help to try to talk to someone else.
