View Full Version : Picture Posting Protocol
This isn't directed at the mods, but more to the general membership:
What is the policy for posting pictures of members?
Example:
I post a picture of myself on another board (board a). A member from this board(boardG|A?) finds the picture, and posts it here.
Is this allowed? Yes or No
Now, what if I hadn't, theortically, ever posted my picture on this board(boardG|A?).
Would it still be allowable?

yeah. like if for instance i wanted to make an avatar of someone here and put whore on it? would that be ok? i've always wondered.
From a standpoint of politeness, no, it's not ok imo.
From an internet standpoint...it is posted on the internet though, and most everything is free property on the internet.

I think it was more about what was written on it than the actual use of the picture. :p
Actually, neither of those have to do with what I'm talking about :D

i personally would ask the person before posting it. however, this doesn't apply to chopping a pic that has already been posted.
only 3 opinions? I was hoping for so much more..

I wouldn't do it unless I had the permission of the person involved. Personally, it seems to me like an invasion of privacy. JMO.

Yes. Them choosing to post their pic. in another board does NOT imply that they automatically are ok with having their pic. posted on this board. It also doesn't imply that they have given up their rights to their privacy.
For example, maybe they didn't post their pic. on this board because they want to maintain their anonymity on this board. Maybe they know someone irl that they also know on this board and they don't want the other person to know that they're here. There can be plenty of scenarios where you can screw someone over by posting people's pics without their permission.

lots of hypocritical talk.
many of you are saying that you shouldnt post someone's pic on this board, even if it was posted on another board, w/o the person's consent. Yet, there have been many instances where you guys went out and found pictures of our G|A? members and linked them, if not posted them (there was someone who had their pictures through their school, and someone google'd it, i cant remember who...) and of course, we all have a good laugh. haha. so whats different now?

contrary to what molecularfire said, altho i do understand the point he was trying to make, i think that once you post your picture on the internet anywhere, period, it's open season.
especially in the case that you are posting it on something as blatantly public as a forum or message board; if some random, totally irrelevant person sees that pic and decides to post it on another forum, you can't really complain and say, "well, it was meant to be private." that's just the risk you take ANY time you post something ANYwhere on the internet, whether it be a piece of writing, a piece of artwork, an original flash animation, a song, or your pasty mug.
if you don't want things like that being spread around on the web, then don't post anything of that nature. if you do, be prepared for the possibility that it might show up somewhere else, and, to put it bluntly, suck it up and let it go if it does.
Actually FunkyUnit, I believe you're referring to me. I posted a picture of (I think) ATTGig that I googled and found on the internet. Can't exactly remember who it was. However, I did this only have he challenged the board to find a picture of him online.

ok how about this. anything thats on the internet is open season.
however, HOWEVER!, if it really bothers you that your pic is being thrown around, just politely request to have it taken down, and the person who posted it should oblige.
and then everyone lives happily ever after. :D

How about this for a novel idea.....
Let common sense be your guide.
A little common courtesy can go a long way. If someone posts a picture in a public forum then sure it is okay to use it. But before defacing someone's picture you shoulod think twice about the person's personality and the context. Many don't seem to mind :passwird: but many do, mostly women. Afterall in the threads welcoming new people women always seem to be the ones warning new people not to post pictures.
