I just found out that they are actually different, now those of you with small businesses do you find that yellow pages or yellow book works as a means of advertising?

You missed the twenty billion lame commercials showing that the yellow book is different from the other book?

My boss advertises in the Yellow book. To tell you the truth though, I dont even look through them for information anymore, it's just easier to go on-line and get a listing.

Same here. I hate phone books and if it would ever get cold here they would make good fuel for the fireplace.
I get like 10 per year dropped off at my doorstep. A complete waste. If a business is not smart enough to go online then they don't get my business.

I also go online fro everything now, and besides my kids rip
the books as soon as we get them

I have a yellow pages. It props open things/holds things down nicely.
Depending on what I'm doing I go here first (http://yp.yahoo.com/) then I dabble at SP (http://www.superpages.com/) second (second because most of the time they don't list suite numbers, etc.) Now if i'm at work, I have a whole slew of resources for looking up things. And none of them are a phonebook of any sorts. :)

The more that come to my door step the better. They have some pretty descent coupons sometimes that give pretty descent discounts.

i would guess that yellow pages is probably a better value because i think people, on average, tend to trust the yellow pages more than the "other directories". however, depending on the cost, i think there's value to advertising in both. most people only use one, so if you can advertise in both books for a reasonable price, i'd go that route.
regardless of how much people here may use the yellow pages, i think it's still an important resource for many people. i know when i lived in detroit, i was unfamiliar with the area, so if i wanted to find a auto repair shop, or a doctor, or whatever, i would go to the yellow pages.
