My work computer has an internal speaker, is there a way i can turn it off and just use the headphones out of the cdrom. I tried plugging the headphones in to the cdrom, but nothing comes out. I have to plug it in to the sound card, but my headphones don't reach that far. I tried diabling the sound card, by choosing the headphone option, but no luck, any ideas?

most computers don't connect the internal audio cable any more for the cdrom drive's audio to work.
the easiest solution...spend 5-10 bucks and get a http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=42-2561
headphone extension cable. plug it into the soundcard, and put the headphone into the other end.

The cd-rom headphone jack is only for listening to audio cds. It doesn't matter if the internal audio cable is connected or not. That cable is used to send and audio cd sound to the sound card.
Do like attgig says and just get an extension.
