well, this sucks .. and i need your knowledge!

i ordered an external harddrive enclosure from PCMicroStore from the deals page 3/4/04 for like $42. got it a few days later. within 5 minutes, it broke. trying to take the ribbon out of the harddrive and the clip that holds the ribbon to the pins on the head of the cable breaks, SO, detached ribbon from head. $7-$8 to ship back for RMA. got back maybe a week / week and a half ago. SAME THING HAPPENS. cheap piece of crap in my opinion. So, gotta spend the money to ship back AND get charged the 15% restocking fee. so, over all i pay $20 for a lesson learned experience.

brings me to this: what brands of external harddrive enclosures are GOOD? name brand is fine, and i know that brings in a price tag too. my friend suggested Wiebe Tech (sp?). he has one of their enclosures and has no complaints. i purchased an enclosure years ago, but it holds up to 120gb, that means my 200gb and 160gb won't work in it :)

ahh....stressssss :)

i have a hotmax (http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=c:36232;p:10501345). the case tends to scratch really easily, but its been working fine for me. The Seagate drive that I put in there fits VERY SNUGLY, LIKE A GLOVE. the case got very hot, but that was during the initial formatting. during normal uses, its not so bad.

I may have gotten the same one from PCMicrostore. I have been having problems lately using it. Maybe it's the enclosure and not my software. It is definitely a cheap looking unit, but it worked for a while.

I have two of these http://fwdepot.com/thestore/product_info.php/products_id/385

bit pricey and noticed the price went up somehow (bought them at $90) but great case and its built solid.

I've gotta a Argosy HD360U, it's a usb2 deal, 3.5 in. enclosure kit. Says it supports over 127GB, but I've got a 40GB in it now. They have other models that include firewire as well. It seems to be built pretty good. Found it for $30.
I've only used it on usb1.1 and the :dead: access light doesn't work. I pulled it apart and the light is good. Just scratching my head.
